Hey Court (or whoever might be reading this!)-

Remember the old Buell print ad that showed a rider waving- i think it even gave some comical "instructions" on how to wave at them with a 2 finger salute of sorts? Do you have a copy of that...a pic or something?

I would love to see it and contrast it to the words in the Book of Buell. Would be a bit of an interesting study IMO.

BTW, that was one of the ads that piqued my interest in Buell and turned me onto them as a company....3 Buells later I'd say I'm hooked!

I remember that. When I got my Book of Buell at Topeka during the races (Buell has BY FAR the cutest Umbrella Ladies), I was thinking about the shirt that has the image of the hand waving and says "Hello" underneath it, like American Sign Language.

I still have and wear that shirt! I think it was a free-bee from the motorcycle show a couple years ago!

Any thoughts Court? ...or does this expose an inconsistency in Buells marketing that you don't want to discuss?

I remember that shirt. Two fingers down that says “Hello”. I can only assume you are comparing that to the new one that says the rider does not have time to say hello. Do you think a company should reference all its advertising back to some made up link to historical significance like Harley? Why would comparing the two different ads be an interesting study?

Are there differences between what has been done in the past and what is done today? You bet! Buell is not a static company. If it were a static company we would have the new 2010 tubers on the floor with bold new colors. Buell has and will keep evolving pushing to a goal that I can only guess is, building a world class American Sportbike.

I simply asked if someone had a copy of the ad, assuming Court would be a good source for a copy. I love BMC, but certainly did not ask for your undying allegiance as a reason to not share, I was just looking to find a copy of it.

A very slow site, and most of the links were dead or led to the Country selection page...which had dead links.

Does anyone remember about when that campaign was run?

I think it would be interesting to contrast the statements made then to the statements made now- clearly they are different messages.

It wasn't an ad campaign, it was just a free T-shirt that Buell was giving away at the Cycle World IMS Show. I've got one in my stash of T-shirts.I think it was 4 or 5 years ago. I never saw any other reference to it.

Crusty, I thought for sure I saw it on paper but as I get older......... Memory is about the third thing to go, I can't remember the first two.

It was the 2006 new model ads.
In August of 2005, I went to the BRAG rally in Colorado, Erik and company rolled out the "new" Uly along with the other models, such as the XB12SS.
Most riders met at Rocky Mountain HD/Buell, this is where I picked up my copy of the CD that had all the new models on it, The case was kind of like a small book, that in addition to holding the CD, also had all the new models, along with a short letter from Erik speaking of the new Uly, and the direction Buell was going with the new Adventure model, on the inside cover, it had the two fingered wave, and underneath it it said, "hello".
