Subject: Please consider combined class races at Laguna-Seca

Dear Mr. Vanderslice,

I am a HUGE fan of AMA Pro Racing (AMAPR) motorcycle road racing, especially the Formula Xtreme (FX) series. So much so that I and other Buell motorcycle enthusiasts have joined forces and will be offering through your contingency award program an award package for Buell racers worth upwards of $10K, hopefully a lot more. You can confirm the details in the works at...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/91000.html

I am working with Ms. Connie Fleming, AMAPR Public Relations Administrator, to establish the best possible contingency awards program for Buell FX racers during the 2005 season. Connie by the way is a great asset to your organization. First rate all the way and a joy with whom to work.

We Buell and Ducati enthusiasts/fans sure appreciate AMAPR writing the FX rules to allow configurations other than 600cc IL4 motorcycles to race in FX including especially the Ducatis and Buells. I hope you will give them a chance to ramp up to competitive status and give the HRC and other perenial factory power-teams a run for their money.

I am already slated to attend the event at Laguna Seca, I purchased my tickets for the event through Buell's BRAG organization. I did so in 2004 as well.

The root of my reason for writing you today is that I am very disappointed that at this time FX has been eliminated from the weekend's line-up at Lagun Seca. Might I suggest a simple solution that will allow all the AMAPR classes to run at Laguna Seca this year along with the slated MotoGP events? Why not follow in line with so many regional club type racing scenarios and run two similar classes simultaneously in one race with a staggered two wave start?

For instance, in the CMRA where I race here in Texas, we often run as many as three separate classes via staggered start. Surely if the CMRA can do so with as many as 60 bikes at once on a small track like Oak Hill Raceway, your fine crew could do likewise for a combined Supersport/FX and/or Superbike/Superstock race at Laguna Seca. I sure hope you are open to reconsidering your decision wrt eliminating the FX race at Laguna Seca.

In truth AMAPR could easily run combined class races comprising Superbike/Superstock and/or Supersport/Formula-Xtreme at Laguna Seca and thus allow all AMAPR classes to participate and all racing fans a chance to see their favorite bikes and racers at what will be THE premiere event in motorcycle road racing in America in 2005. Please, please consider the combined class race solution.

Thank you for your consideration,

Blake
Kilgore, TX

PS: How about replacing Brainerd and/or VIR with a race in Texas! Please!

Paid via pay-pal

Let me know if it didn't work - I'm not exactly pay-pal savvy.

Cool!
A reminder link from the discussion page might help.
I had been skimming over this page for a while thinking it was just talk. My bad, but maybe others are doing the same.

FYI: Currently for the 2005 season there are only a total of 8 FX races scheduled. : ( Hopefully we'll end up with ten or at least nine.

If you haven't yet please send a quick email like mine above asking AMAPR to reinstate Formula Xtreme for the Laguna Seca event and to organize an event in Texas to replace the one lost at Brainerd and/or VIR. : D

Looks good, Blake. Thanks again for all you've done. Let me know when I can get the BadWeb decals I must run. I'll put them the bike now if you got 'em!

I can't thank everyone enough for supporting this very cool effort.

Just received the 4 event passes for Daytona. Who wants to represent BadWeB at Daytona? For a further donation of $50 you will receive an event pass including paddock access for the entire AMA Daytona Superbike series events. You'll also get some official BadWeatherBikers.com credentials (el-cheapo business card looking things).

No parking for Daytona, the track claims all that.

Higbee To Race Buell In 2005 AMA Formula Xtreme Series

From a press release:

Milwaukee, WI: Shawn Higbee has established his own racing team for 2005 to compete in the AMA Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme Series. The 2001 Formula USA Unlimited Superbike champion returns to ride a Buell XB and will debut his 2005 Formula Xtreme bike at the upcoming Indianapolis Dealer show on Saturday, February 19th as a featured display of the Teknic exhibit booth.

"It has been very exciting working on the creation of this team over the past 4-5 months," said Higbee. "Over the years, I have had the chance to work with several great teams. Now, I have the goal to bring together the best aspects of each of them into one cohesive unit. All of this hard work has really motivated me toward Daytona. I am really excited about the coming season."

Higbee will race the #14 Higbee Racing Buell at the upcoming Daytona 200, a 68-lap, 200-mile test of rider and machine, is the first event of the exceptionally competitive series. "I'm happy to be back on a Buell," added Higbee. "The XB is a superb handling bike and suits my riding style well. I think we will be a competitive force in 2005."

In addition to displaying his Buell XB in Indianapolis, Higbee will be signing autographs at the Pit Bull booth on Saturday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m.

The 64th running of the Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme Daytona 200 will be held on Saturday, March 12.

God bless you Don.

So nobody wants the Daytona tickets?

Wooohooo! So as I understand it we'll have Hobans, Hals, and now Higbee. We need one more to fill out the award rostrum. It's going to be a challenging race for the big bad bellering Buells to finish. It's going to be a tough race for the hooting Hondas to finish too. I'm really looking forward to the spectacle.

Just one? Don't you always have at lease one good looking companion with you? : )

First one is yours. Paypal is fine. The paddock pass is good for the entire AMA Superbike event period. Be sure to include your mailing address in the paypal order.

Am looking forward to finally meeting you.

Your humble servant,

Blake

We need a memorable press release to distribute to the moto press, especially www.roadracingworld.com. Any ideas? Jerry Haughton, Court, anyone with a talent for entertaining prose?

I suppose that I could simply present the math. : )

Linda won't be going, unfortunately, so I'm free to spend as much time at the track as I want, which is usually more than she can stand.

Blake,

Where can I get the BadWeb decals that I must run on the bike? Are they going to be available at tech?

Some of the Buell riders may not know about the BadWeb contingency so you might want to call the AMA and make sure they have it printed on the tech sheet and make decals available. Give me a call if you need more info.

Blake, Is the tickets good just for that Saturday or for all of the AMA races? I have Saturday covered with the BRAG tickets but if I can use them for the other days I may be in for two if they are still available, that would put me in for $200.

Peter, get ready, AMA Superbike @ VIR is back on the schedule in August!!!

Dan Murphy Lands What The AMA Could Not
by dean adams
Friday, February 18, 2005
Dan Murphy's company, RPM, has a five year deal to hold AMA Superbike races at VIR, according to RPM's Cameron Gray. The '05 event will be held on August 26-28.

"We just did the deal," Gray said. "We had to work with both sides, the AMA and the track and get them all on our page. I'm happy to say that we're going to do it and all parties are pleased with it."

Gray said that fans of the VIR event should expect something different in 2005. "I think people know what our style is, doing things a little different. We'll have a spectacular event, probably sponsored by Suzuki and maybe a combined event with Super-Moto. Flag rooms, stunt shows, a lot of things are under consideration.

Murphy and company promoted the late-1990s Superbike events at Road Atlanta and the very popular World Superbike races at Laguna Seca.

"We've made this our personal challenge to make this event a big success," Gray said.
