Do we need a list of people willing to contribute towards a partial BadWeB sponsorship of an AMA Formula Xtreme racing team? We would need some serious pledges here as we are talking a minimum of six figures.

I'm in for $100.

We just need another thousand such comittments and we are there. Should this come to fruition it may not come into effect until the '06 season. Would aim for the latter part of the '05 season, but we cannot know for sure. This is just a what if testing the waters for a grass roots effort.

Maybe we can team up with the BRAG people on this?

Our "Brag chapter to be" is going to host a 200 party no matter if Buell makes it or not! I am just hoping that ESPN or Speed channel will be playing it this year.

I'm sure the 3%ers won't mind pulling some money together.

"Hal's won't be the only Buell racing at Daytona. "

Correct... But we would certainly need to focus our resources into one team. I figure it ought to be the one that did the best last year. I don't remember specifically if that was Barnes or Ciccoto though.

We need more bills people... Step up.

I agree that if this comes to pass we should be behind one team.
I have nothing against Hal's, they have done a great job.

I do of course have my loyalties to Hoban Brother's as I have worked for 2 different dealers now that have helped sponsor them as well as both dealerships being sponsors of Badweb(see a connection here).
Hoban Brother's Racing have achieved much success thru the years without the big budget or factory help that other teams have received.
They are a true "grassroots" team.
I will support whatever the majority decides but for now my vote is with Hoban's.

Is it an idea to see which team has the best prospects for winning in 2005/2006 and support them?

I'm in for 100 euros, but it would be september 2005. I'd love to support a buell race team. Resources are limited at the moment however.

I don't believe that we need to come up with 6 figures though.Maybe in the 70 or 80 thousand range.I don't think Hal's is broke or completely unfunded. They probably just don't have it in the budget to go the distance.I still think Buell will be helping just not as much as they were.I hope it turns out well.

I would think the minimum need would be 6 figures. You have salaries to pay, transportation costs, race entry fees, food, etc etc. Then you have any work the bike needs, repairs, upgrades, new motors, etc.

Hell when I was racing hobby stock on a 1/3rd mile dirt track it was costing me $300-400 a night just in tires, gas, entry, etc. And the only pit crew I had was my wife & she was working for free.

BTW..I have to side with Dave & say Hobans would be the ones to sponsor. Hals is great, but they are also pretty damn close to a facotry team, where as Hobans is more of a grass roots effort that we could get behind.

I see your point, but I'm in it to win (or get as close as possible). I'm not saying that I don't think Hoban is capable exactly, but that Hal's and Kosco have experience in FX and did better than most thought they would. Also, if we were to sponsor Hobans, we would most likely have less in the pot (financially) overall. I could care less about the grass roots part... I'd send Erik himself $100 if I though it would help to win races.

I don't think anyone here can put a dollar figure on this unless someone knows there financial status. If we want to help them we should speak to Jim or Terry and find out what their after and can we help in some capacity. So maybe someone from Brew City.(Hal's) Brag club can speak for us since its their dealer in need. Maybe like Kinger or Steve Mackay which are both club officers to get the ball rolling.BTW is Hoban's running FX cause I thought they were Pro Thunder. Hal's is going up against the teams with the likes of Duhamel and such. Much needed help I'd say but I'm willing to help out both. Its a good cause.

Hoban's will be at Daytona, racing in FX.
There are other things I am not at liberty to discuss.
As far as Hoban's not being able to win, they did pretty well against everyone in Thunderbike against the dealer(factory)teams.
They had an off year last year but are ready to come back this year in a big way!
They had the number 1 plate in 02
Don't think they ever finished out of the top 5 in points at the end of a season.
I think they are qualified.
You may disagree.
I know them, I know the fire that burns in their belly, I know their desire to win.
I know of a couple aces that may be up their sleeve!

Sorry Dave... It's not that I disagree. It's more that I haven't been around the Buell scene quite long enough to know what the real deal is and Hal's/Kosco's are the only known quantities to me. It's not like I would retract my offer if we chose the Hoban Bro's or anything : ).

Too many cooks stirring the pot here. All I wanted at this point is an estimate of how much BadWeB might be able to raise towards a sponsorship effort.

Y'all will need to trust the BadWeB custodians to pick the team to sponsor if we should just happen to get enough promises of donations to the fund. It will not be a random choice I can assure you. It will be the team that has the best chance of winning.

That's exactly what I did this year when Hoban Bros was in Vegas. Jeff Johnson is a very talented rider that I have had the opportunity to help over the years by showing up at the track to do whatever needs to be done, and I wish him every success.

I wish they would do more racing out West, because I would help more. They are great guys and I have ALWAYS enjoyed the time spent at the track with them.

If anyone is serious about making sure the top team is sponsored, then the way to do it is a contingency money approach. That way the racetrack picks the top team, and the arguments stay in the bar, where they belong.

Dck,

That would presume the team has enough money to get there with top level equipment and rider. There is NO way to compete at the top national level with just contingency money, when you are competing with teams funded by millions and millions. I mean I guess you could put out some money for folks who are going to finish 10th, etc., but why would you? It's a great way to provide incentive and reward in semi pro and amateur level stuff, though.

That's my point Dana... I was speaking for myself. I didn't say they knew which team to pick. I said I would be fine with them picking because I feel that they (the admins) probably have a better grasp of who is truly competitive than I do. Notice I didn't say anything about what Dana (or anyone else for that matter) should do...

I'm in for $100.

Democracy has no place in this process.

There is lots more going on than some may be aware of.

For this Badweb effort, and given the knowledge Blake has of Buell Racing, I'm sending $100 to him in Texas and trusting his judgement.

This is a crucial year for Buell racing. I'm pleased and proud to add some support.

Blake will do well.

I also am impressed with Timbo's comments and encourage Badwebbers to offer up support, be it local meals, lodging or gopher work for Buell teams in the area.

It seems that the Mods have someone in mind. Is there any problem with naming the team and saying: "Who wants to put money into a Badweb sponsership of: (name of racing effort) which we know (for reasons which we may not yet be able to state in a public forum)will be making a serious run this year.

Unless the name of the team itself would be divulging confidential information, I think that would work.

This process is me giving my money to who I want. So I'll look at the teams and send whoever I decide on a donation. You can stick your "We know what's best" attitude where the sun doesn't shine.

Thank you. One of the first steps is to free to process of the induced drag of nay-sayers.

Invest wisely and my hopes that whatever decision you make is based upon much more accurate information than you "guessed" at regarding Buell racing.

Happy New Year,

Court, I understand the no democracy thing (former soldier, catholic school attendee, 7th of 9 children... you get the idea)

But I'll still say I think it should go to one team, whichever team that might be.

Then we get Ferris to hang with the team, write the book , and then we can all buy it from Daves!

>>>Unless the name of the team itself would be divulging confidential information.

It has very little to do with confidentiality, more to do with how pies are sliced.

Let's say, for instance, we garner $5,000 from Badwebbers. Now let's say "all have an equal say in the decision" and all exercise that right.

So now we take the $5,000 and divide it up among 17 races teams, and give $294.00 (roughly $24 per race), to each team.

With me now?

It has nothing to do with anyone being wiser or imbued with devine clarvoyance.

Also, remember some of the communal projects we've done and the time required to extract a universally agreeable consensus. There is a point in a decision making process where you are better off to make a "poor" decision (later proved to perhaps not have been the best) as opposed to making NO decision.

I learned this from my Father years ago. Try standing in front of a rapidly approaching train weighing the relative benefits of leaping right (alligators) and left (stockpile of lawn mower blades).....

There are many things I am not good at and one of them would include MAKING this decision about the race team. There are some things I EXCEL at and one is building and managing effetive teams of people all much smarter than myownstupy self.

Trust me there have been some TEAM ELVES deicsions that I made that were certainly not pleasant to some of the others. I did not ask them to agree with me all the time, I just promised the team would be managed well.

Some of the best results, over the years, have been things that Aaron and I (two folks who see the world from much different perspectives) did not agree on. Even when we have NOT agreed, we have learned for the benefit of the effort to SUPPORT whatever decision is made. I've made some wrong decisions that would have tail spun had it not been for him or other Elves making them succeed.

It's a simple managemement lesson.

Court,

You're not really addressing the question. I think nearly everyone would agree that the point would be for all money to go to one team. The question is: "Who is the team?"

If I'm being asked to donate blindly into a fund which could be sent to Blake's Nephew's racing program . . . I'm sorry, but I'm not willing to put that kind of blind faith into it.

If I'm being asked to donate to: Hal's or Hoban's or Kosco through Badweb, I'm much more interested.

I think it would also make sense to add a notation. If the forum software allows, badges could be attached to donors avatars - Silver Sponsor - $50, Gold Sponsor - $100, Platinum Sponsor $200 +, for example.

Blake can assure donors that all money goes directly to the racing effort. The web-site gets publicity - web address on bike etc. which brings in more members which brings in more donations. Something like that seems like it would work to me.
