Good info from Gulio Bardo in a press release from Hero:

quote:

“One of the targets was to complete both races with both riders. Unfortunately Geoff got injured but he will be back for the next race. With Aaron we completed both races and that was important for us. We can go back home and between Australia and the next race in Spain, we can further develop the EBR 1190 RX. This weekend we have been chasing our tails a little but the whole team has worked hard and can be satisfied that we are moving in the right direction.”

That confirms my opinion at least... were I team manager, I would have had two goals for the weekend...

1) Finish both races.
2) Gather important data.

Unfortunately Geoff broke a bone doing a great job on #2, so #1 suffered a little... but EBR finished its first two world superbike races intact.

Press release is here:

You know another thing I am already enjoying with this whole EBR WSBK thing? Actual press releases! The bike photographs fantastic as well (small critique being the white horizontal strip on the front makes the bike look a little fatter than it is).

Exciting stuff!

Here's what Aaron had to say about the the 2nd race:

quote:

"The bike was the best that it’s been all weekend," the American said. "We found something in the warm-up session, which has helped us massively. Towards the end of the race I was thinking about not getting in the way of leaders, but we did what we set out to achieve, and that was to finish both races and get a lot more data. We can go to Aragon proud of what we have achieved here."

By the way, I'd like to add that I REALLY love the way beIN Sports broadcasts these races. They only have commercial breaks before and after the races, NOT during the race itself. Race coverage is uninterrupted from start to finish.

Wish Fox Sports would follow this lead. I've really gotten sick of the way they return from a commercial break only to learn there was either an accident, or a significant position change while we were watching commercials during MotoGP.

Jaime - you got that right! If they can do wire to wire broadcasts, why can't the other networks?

Side rant: why do I have to pay for cable broadcast, then have to pay for the commercials the cable company derives even more revenue from? (up to 20-25 minutes worth in a 60 minute broadcast spot). OK - rant over... I guess I should buy a buttload of Comcast Stock and be happy.

I'm sure the results didn't meet the expectations of the riders, teams, or the fans...but at least it's a start.

No one thought EBR's best result in WSBK was going to be their very first race.

They obviously have some things to improve and develop. The big question is how high is their ceiling going to be this season. I am not going to venture any guesses on that one.

boys, the best way was to watch it streaming from worldsbk.com
69euros is cheaper then MOTOGP and worth it, when the EBRs are in it.
no interruptions at all.
and that way avoid paying for all the channels one never watches anyways.

Decent article on EBR's efforts at Phillip Island: http://www.crash.net/wsbk/news/200602/1/fault-free -races-as-ebr-makes-wsbk-debut.html

Scroll to the bottom for pics- includes some very nice shots of Aaron in the races as well as some pit photos of the bikes.

Ducati sells a decent amount of bikes and as we all know their GP bikes are slower than some CRT machines.

I'm not sure how this is at all more embarrassing or bad for Buell given that there was no company just a few short years ago.

Still, I'd like to see them be more competitive.

Looks like a gear linkage to allow for reverse (race pattern) gear shifting rather than the stock direct action lever on the RX. There is probably a quick shifter pressure sensor in the linkage too.

That's the standard RS shift linkage. I read about the new swingarm. Curious as to what they have changed.

Apparently it is a tad longer but some how lighter than the one on the RS.

I love Buell, I really do but they are way too far off performance wise to be in WSB. Over 30mph top speed on the other bikes and 5 sec a lap behind the leaders. They brought spoons to a knife fight. Swingarms and electronics don't get you 5 seconds and 30mph.

They need a complete new engine package but they just seem to keep trying to get more out of what they have which is never going to get them anything substantial. When you are 30-40hp down you have to start over like Ducati did with the Panigale.

I am sure EBR knows this and is working on a new power plant for the near future.

Geoff was more like 3.5 seconds behind the leaders. After the (now apparently confirmed) early engine failures, my guess is they went VERY conservative with their race engines. The bikes' top speeds were apparently LESS than those of stock 1190RX's. We know they can do better than that.

Don't count them out after one race. A lot can (and no doubt will) happen between now and race 2.

I beg to differ, telemetry optimized GPS driven ECU mapping, can play a HUGE role in rider confidence, speed and lap times. As little as 15mm difference in swingarm length can mean the difference between getting the power down or fighting a lofting the front wheel while leaned well over. The way in which the TC reacts can have a tremendous impact on whether one spins up or gets the drive out of a corner. Plus the track itself is not the easiest to come to grips with if you are used to racing smaller tighter tracks.

I'm not making excuses for them. I'm saying in a sport that is equal parts machine, setup, rider and luck, they looked like a new team inexperienced with the first three and fresh out of the fourth vs veteran teams with all four in abundance. I think we will see an improved(don't try to pin me down on how much)effort from the EBR HERO team in Round 2. I suspect by round 4 they will be settling in to their norms.

PS. The photos of the bike May crashed have surfaced and he really must have had a seriously NASTY off, to wreck it like that.

Great upload! Can you get more through the season? The crap on Youtube is maybe a 144p resolution and then is quickly forced off by Dorna.

Good stuff! Thanks!

Thanks for the link Rob.

For those who are interested, commentary on EBR starts at about 12:10 and goes on for maybe 30 seconds. He had some nice stuff to say about the team and motorcycles.
