I'm considering riding to Daytona from Houston for the races this year. It looks like admission for races is $30-$45. and that includes infield camping! Is that true? If so, what are the recommended camping spots? Can you really show up on Friday, watch the races for the weekend, and camp Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, all for only $45.? If so, WOW! I have camped at the Daytona 200 Campground, not affiliated with the track, in the past and it was $25-$30/night for camping only. I have passed the track but I have never gone in. Any info/recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tent camping in the infield: That will be in the Geico Caveman camp area. You get a spot to camp. There is a bathroom/shower room that is well maintained.

Tickets: Nobody in the ticket office can think past Nascar races, so don't expect intelligent answers from them, they don't know.

Option A: The whole week ticket package. For around $325.00 you get tickets to the races, motocross, flat track, and road races. If you are going for the whole week (8-16), it is a good deal and includes everything.

Option B: What I have done the last two years. I go on Thursday. There are no advance tickets for Thursday since Thursday is a practice day. Go in thru the tunnel entrance. They have a ticket booth there. Buy your Thursday ticket and go in. Last two years, that has cost $15.00.

Friday: Ride back to the entrance and buy Friday's infield ticket. Make sure you get the right one. They sell infield tickets, and tickets to the flat track races. Flat track tickets are optional if you want to see that race. They are not interchangeable. Last two years Friday has cost $20.00.

Saturday: Same as Friday, go out the gate (good time to see the displays and such). Buy your Saturday ticket on the way back in. Bring a lanyard to hang your tickets, you need to display them for access to the campground and pits/fanwalk, etc.

Badwebbers, Buellers and other malcontents camp near the fence in turn three. There are no food or refreshment stands open in the infield on Thursday or Friday. But it is easy to get in and out of the track at the tunnel entrance. I am planning to go unless something earth changing comes up. If so, I always bring plenty of coffee, and some snacks, and some wood for a fire.

And bring something warm to wear just in case. Florida this time of year can be 30's overnight, and 80's later in the day.

If anyone plans on towing their bike on a trailer, there is a $25.00 charge to bring the trailer in for the weekend.

If anyone has anything to add (in case the rules have changed), please pipe up.

Thanks Fast1075. Much appreciated. Is your camping area 'in' the Geico Caveman area? If not, what are the differences? What are the BIG days, Saturday and Sunday? Is camping on Sunday night included in Sunday ticket? Really appreciate the tips. Warm cloths and snacks! : ) I FROZE between Pensacola and Daytona a few years ago! I'll be ready this time. : ) Thanks.

Sunday: you have to clear the site by (I think) 1100.
The Buell group meet up in the Caveman camping area.
As stated, practice Friday, racing Saturday.
I live in Jacksonville if you need anything on your way in. Just PM me.

Thanks, Chris. I appreciate the info. and offer. Can campers come and go from the Speedway using the same day pass, to go to a restaurant, etc.? Do you buy a new pass each day as well? Does the infield get crowded? Is Pit access available? Sorry for all the questions; just trying to understand options. Thanks.

You can come and go as you please as long as the gates are open. I think they close them at 8:00pm. Each day's ticket IS your pass.

You have access to the whole infield spectator area, and the infield pit areas. You need an AMA credential and a listing as crew to get into the hot pits.

The has always been plenty of room in the campground and in the infield in general.

Like fast says: Access is in/out all day on your day pass until they close the gates. (Times seem to vary from year to year & the access tunnels are often closed when racing is happening.)
Loads of room to camp & access to just about all infield areas. i watched the races from a stand inside turn 1 last time. You can walk the back of the pits etc', just can't get into them without accreditation.

Wow, thanks guys. I REALLY appreciate all the help. It's coming together well! : ) I spent 'quality' time with my Uly this afternoon, got a packing system ironed out, and just Googled Daylight Savings and found it starts on March 10! : ) I'll need that extra hour on the trip. When you say an AMA credential I'm sure you mean something beyond an AMA membership card, which I have.

Any idea how many Buellers will be there? How about you Chris and Fast1075? Amafan? You guys are probably old hands but camping in the infield DURING the races seems very cool to me. The 'closed tunnels during races' comment brought back a cool memory. I was fortunate to have grown up in Laconia, N.H. in my early years and we'd go to 'The Races' at the old Mountain Course every year. Let me tell you, for a 10-11 year old, walking through a narrow tunnel under the track, as the racers screamed by above you, NOTHING could beat the adrenalin rush! I'm ignorant on racing today but I went to some pretty exciting road races recently, CMRA's opening weekend of the racing season at the MSR track in Angleton Texas, and as IMPRESSED as I was, my appetite wasn't satisfied! : ) I really want to see the 1190RS's race. I was told at MSR that last years winner of the CMRA Circuit, Dominguez(?), has joined the EBR team.

I'm tentatively planning, after the great info I got here, to ride in late on Thursday and watch the racing on Friday and Saturday. Will the 1190RS's race in races besides the Daytona 200 at 1 pm on Saturday?

Thanks guys.

The 1190RS is a Superbike ,and the Daytona 200 is a Sportbike race, the 2 Superbike races are Friday afternoon, and Saturday morning, before the Daytona 200.

I'm not an expert, but I think the AMA credential bit is for special access to hot trackside pits, which means the pit right on the side of the track while the races are happening. You need special certification or something.

I don't know about Daytona, but at Mid Ohio you have access to overlook the garage pits any time (before, during and after racing) if you buy the extra $20 pit pass. No special certification for that. And they also have a "fan walk" that you shouldn't miss where you can go down to the track side pits, shake hands with the racers, and take a close look at the pits and the bikes.

Howdy Badwebbers!
On Friday at 12:10 will be the first Fanwalk of the weekend. The fanwalk is when all fans are allowed to visit with the racers and see all the bikes alongside the racer pitstalls up close.I would like to do a Group picture of you'all and any family and friends first with Cory West and following that with Geoff May and Aaron Yates. These shots will be posted up on the Badweb with a link to a site where you can download the full resolution image for your own use.(unfortunately Badweb only can handle low res stuff).Depending on the setup I'll need an assistant to hold one of the flashes,if anyone wants to help.I'm sure it will be a madhouse so we'll have to bully our way in or wait till theres a break.Hope to see all show up!!Eric 'Ebear' Barrows

Live timing is up. 1st superbike session, ~6 minutes to go, 3 EBR bikes in top 10! Geoff is 7th fastest, Cory is 9th, and Aaron is 10th.

Danny Eslick is 2nd fastest overall behind Josh Hayes.

1st superbike session over, Geoff was fastest EBR in 8th place, Cory 11th, Aaron 12th, Dustin 15th.

Josh Hayes (as usual) is fastest; Eslick held on to second but is nearly 2 seconds (!) slower than Hayes. Sheez.

Hughlysses- Yeah, looks like the same song and dance as last year...I'm happy for Danny though, but it looks as if Daytona is not the track for the EBR's.

I'm still pulling for 'em though!
