Is anyone offering a licensing course before April?

Yabbut he's in NC - there's gotta be a course being offered without having to leave the state.

Nathan - are you deploying in April? All the best, man.

I don't think there's a track in NC. The two closest ones are VIR in Virginia and Carolina Motorsports Park in SC. Hopefully he can find something at one of them.

http://nm.msf-usa.org/msf/ridercourses.aspx

There are a LOT (48 different courses) being offered in NC by various folks - schools, dealers.

You can sort by your location. You'd have to make some calls to ask for course dates.

RACE license or MSF/Riding (street)

Oops - my bad.

If racing, you should go to CCS or WERA bulletin boards to see which people are advertising - or pick up a copy of Roadracing World and go to the ads.

(I don't read too good - this is the RACE section on Badweb)

http://www.ccsracing.us/schools.html

And you really MUST spend some time AT the track or tracks that you plan to compete to get a feel for their setup. Register on their BBS and ask questions as a newbie. Racing bulletin boards are far more "user friendly" than sportbike boards because NOBODY can BS - since you're all going to be racing AGAINST each other.

From WERA rules, Chapter 7, section 12:

quote:

WERA recognizes the following motorcycle ROADRACING schools as the requirement for obtaining a Provisional Novice License: WERA New Riders’ School, Jason Pridmores STAR School, Fast Track Riders school, Ed Bargy’s Rider School, Kevin Schwantz Suzuki School, Corner Speed, Team Chicago School, F.A.S.T. (Canadian), CLASS, Team Hammer Advanced Riders’ School, Track Riders, MARRC, Freddie Spencer, Viking Race School, California Superbike (must take the classroom part of WERA’s school), RPM Track School, Ty Howards Racing School 35, Sportbike Track Time Pro School., Champion Sportbike Club, & Penguin School. The length of time between taking the riders’ school and racing must not exceed twelve (12) months. If the school you have taken is not listed call the WERA office to see if it has been approved since the printing of the rulebook or if it meets WERA requirments.

WERA offers new racer schools at most of their events. New Racer School, Saturday, race on Sunday. Contact them directly.

Start hanging out on the racing BBS's and asking questions.

There should be a WERA race school at Roebling Road (near Savannah, Ga) the weekend of March 18th.

Thanks guys. I'll keep looking. Steve, when it comes to my deployments, the Army changes it's mind more often than I change my underwear. It was supposed to be March. Now it's June. And I'm sure it will change again. I'm still not going to be able to do any racing this year, but I was at least going to try to get licensing out of the way and maybe do a couple of track days. All the schools that CCS links to for my region, most have nothing till April. And I look outside at a beautiful 70 degree southern day and wonder what the heck we're waiting on April for! I was going to try to do the M4 school coming up at Daytona, but the total cost of the weekend is just too much. I can go to school, or I can watch the races. One or the other. Cant afford both. So I'm going to watch the races.

By the way, does anyone know anything about the open book licensing exam that CCS gives in place of an actual school? It doesn't sound like the best way to go, but if it's all I can do before I leave that's what I'll do.

You should probably post up on the CCS board (I no longer race CCS since they don't run a Western Region anymore) - but their BBS has a bunch of helpful folks:

http://www.ccsforum.com/

CCS Usually has their new race school attached to most race weekends - just not sure when/where one might work for you in the Carolinas or within a couple hours.

if you do the race license course you should probably do a couple of race weekends with your new license. the licensing school certificate is usually only good for a year and once you participate with a license you won't have to recertify. come on in, the water is fine! the idea at the beginning is to just finish.

BuellracerX and I just drove down to Jennings to take Ed Bargy's class. I definitely recommend his school.

Found one. And the time. Going to Cornerspeed next month at CMP. It's like the only free time I have between now and may. Now I just have to find a jacket to match my pants.....
