Roadracingworld is a pretty good source for info on the web. Dig in.

This approach worked for me:

1) Take the MSF basic class.
2) Take the MSF advanced class.
3) Do a track day in the Novice class, or an on track class.
4) Go visit the closest AMA race this year, preferably at the track where you did the track day. Make sure you don't miss the paddock walk before the race, and shake Geoff May's hand and wish him luck. If equipped, bring a 9 year old kid who loves his KX-60.

Worked like a charm!
