2010 will be my first year racing!

I'm going to run my new '08 1125R in CCS.

I plan on doing the license school on May 22nd weekend at Blackhawk Farms and race on Sunday.
Luckily I will have the support of some fellow Buell racers, Ralph Longus (Gearhead) and Troy Walbaum.

Now the fun starts, getting together all the parts and stuff needed to make this happen.

Bike will remain stock engine and exhaust, only modifications will be for raceprep. (at least that's the plan as of now)

I plan on running in SuperTwins and HW Superbike.
Any other tips on competative CCS classes for me to look into?

The hunt for sponsors is on!

If they change the rules for HWSS, you may be better suited there. Currently they only allow wet twins up to 1000cc, but if they change that in the 2010 rule book to match the displacement rules for HWSB, you will fit.

Good call, I was surprised that SS and SB didn't match up in the displacement department.

I don't really want to jump into Unlimited class right out of the gate.

The season opener is at Heartland in April, they always have a racer license class on practice day. In case you don't want to wait. If still available the race exhaust makes a ton more power, might consider it while you can.

Good luck. I am green with envy that I can't be on a bike this summer. Keep the wheel side down.

Ralph -
As motivation I have the date and the classes on a post-it note stuck to my monitor here at work.

first year racing is the best. enjoy it, there's no pressure, just have fun and learn. get to know the fast guys and learn all you can from them. the best think is to get someone to show you the racer lines around all the tracks you go to. it'll make it alot more fun and speed your learning curve up.

Chippy, with the current schedule, you will be in GTL (race #1) and LWSS (race #11). I am hoping they will change the schedule and bring in another LW class on Sundays.

Hmm, been adding up the equipment needed to get started.

Bodywork
Spares
Tires
Stands
etc.

Damn.
Time to start scouring eBay for the spares, see if I can find some deals.

Pawnshops are a good source for generators. Think QUIET when getting a generator... DO NOT go cheap. You'll piss off everybody around you in the pits with the noise from a $200 poorly-muffled generator.

I'm lucky, the guys I'm traveling with have a real nice generator that will handle all 4 sets of warmers!

But I will definately keep that in mind.

I may be pinching and eating Ramen for a while, but have to make this happen.

Anyone looking to get race bodywork should call Lithium Motorsports, they did pretty good for me.

After much success last season on my SV650, I'm going with a 2009 Buell XB12R this season in CCS Southeast. Just ran it for the first time at Jennings GP and I was very impressed. First time on a Buell EVER! What a great bike the Buell is! Only drawback is the expensive of setting it up right. Little to no used parts around and new parts are pricey. I've already invested about 3K in the bike above what I bought it new for and still have about another 2K to go. Going to be a real nice CCS Lightweight class bike when its done though.

Playhard -

You're definately going more all out than I am.
I will probably end up having close to $2k in mine entire setup including spares, but this is starting from scratch.
I am basically doing the minimum needed to get going, no chain drive, etc.

$1,700 in suspension work alone. Forget everything else, spend your money on the suspension. That will make you faster then anything else, well, except track time.

All I'm buying right off are things that are must have to get the bike prepped.

Suspension at this moment is a luxury item, and will only be touched if it's a must.
Bike is staying stock other than race prep.
The bike has pretty good suspension bits right off and I know people that are pretty competitive on the stock suspension, so it will have to wait.
Not saying they wouldn't help, but they are already better than I am.

FWIW I ran my stock 04 12R last season. The only mods were;
race pads, front springs and heavier oil in the front,

rear race spring,

belly pan,

number plate,

steering damper (required by WERA),

Race DOT tires.

More than body work, I would reccomend at least race springs and heavier weight oil in the front and a race spring in the rear. This will make a HUGE difference over stock!

The rear shock, even with the race spring, suffers from fade after about 8 laps.

If nothing else, get some racing brake pads.

As for spares, I didn't have much. Maybe a foot peg, a brake lever and a handle bar.

Grassroots racer? More like crab-grassroots!!! LOL

BTW, you were looking good out there PlayHard!!
