I don't think the World Series in misnamed. ALL the top players from around the world are playing on MLB teams.

I don't profess to even understand Baseball at all, and it seems to me to be a uniquely American sport except in Japan of course. Are there any players from outside the continental US/Caribean/Japan in the 'World Series'? I certainly haven't heard of any European players, but then we don't get any coverage here.

At least the cricket/football/rugby World Cup has teams from different countries playing in it as well as different player nationalities. The US even fielded a team in the Rugby world cup last year : )

Like Trojan.. and a lot of us I'm sure.. I'd like to see the AMA go to something like this..

SUPERBIKE - 1000 IL4s / 1200cc Twins - Similar if not the same as WSBK - Easier to homologate and regulate. Factories and teams would have easier times putting together teams and machines for the series and hopefully it would lead to closer racing which has been absent from AMA SBK for the last several years.. to say the least..

SUPERSPORT - 600cc series. Hey, our current series isn't bad. With a little tweak here and there, it's on a par with anything anywhere else in the world.

FORMULA EXTREME - weight/hp limited ONLY.. after that it's run what ya brung.. This would also allow a lot of other brands to run as long as the limits were reasonable and not designed to favor a single type or make of machine. (I was thinking maybe 400lbs. wet - 160hp?)

MOTO-ST - Twin Endurance as it is now. (ok, maybe the pace car rolling start will have to go away due to the other bikes not using such a start.. Hmmm.. Maybe a LaMans style start?)

ROOKIES CUP - (which started this year) 125 (currently) or 250cc Jr.s' racing.

A weekend should be pretty easy to put together..

Friday - Open practice - all groups in the morning. Rookies, Moto-St and Superbike 1 qualify in the afternoon.

Saturday - Morning - Rookies, Moto-ST, Superbike practice. SuperSport and FX qualify. Afternoon - Rookie, Moto-ST and Superbike 1 races, finish position in SBK race 1 determines start position in race 2.

Sunday - Morning SBK, FX, SS practice. - Afternoon - FX, SS SBK 2 Races.

This just in:

Michael Beck gets a WSB ride - one time deal substituting for the injured David Checa at Monza

Couldn't happen to a nicer kid.

It's exciting when a local guy gets close to the big time.

Yeah... Scooter is a great guy. Stayed with him and helped him break camp, stow gear, take down tents. I know how bad it is after 4 days, kinda hard to get motivated to spend a couple hours packing when you could be drinkin' and they had to hit Irvine to start really drinking.

Say HI up at Sears Point!

WSBK Qualifying is 107% if I understand correctly.

Beck needs 1:53.4 based on Neukirchner's time at 1:45.99 - and he's at 1:51.89

So far, so good.

Not that the kid will set the world on fire the first time out, but it looks like he will make the field!

GO MIKEY!

It's awesome to have somebody you've actually ridden and practiced with go on to this level.

Exciting stuff.

Yeah.

We're going to have a WSBK party this week - pizza and watch the DVR.

Even though Beck "only" finished at the back of the pack, it's just awesome actually KNOWING somebody in the race!

Hope that he can do more of it.

When you see him at Infineon, get him some congratulations - he DESERVES them!

Kid's gonna be worn out by the end of the AMA racing.

Interesting points in Club racing v. AMA racing v. FIM/WSBK: Beck WINS almost every time he turns a wheel in Club racing, in AMA he's top 10 and WSBK he's back of the field. Kinda shows the difference in the 3 different races!

Awesome racing all around.

I find that I don't any longer HATE Biaggi too... never thought I'd say that.

Neukirchner is awesome. 'Nuf said there.

He was talking about how his team mate 'F*d up' or some such.. That's why the announcer said they were going to work on getting him some vocabulary.. His English still needs work and like a lot of folks, some of the first words he masters are expletives.. Oh well..

Miller Motorsports Park in Utah this weekend. NONE of the regulars have ever seen this track before. This oughtta be interesting. Too bad the FIM and AMA went through such pains to prevent us from comparing the AMA guys to the FIM guys by making them run different courses. I'd LOVE to be able to compare Mladin and Spies times to the world's best.

Guess we'll find out at Laguna Seca when Spies rides the Suzuki MotoGP bike on a track he knows like the back of his hand...

I am with you on that, I would be interested to see how the lap times compare between the two series.

I was thinking about why they would have them run different configurations. And unfortunately, the only answers I came up with go kind of like this..

- We want to give as much of a show as possible, so we'll run '2 race tracks' for this event giving the fans a great event with changes every other race (just about)..

- We don't want any direct comparisons between the AMA and FIM races, so let's make sure they aren't really running the same track. That way, we can always save face in the event one series seems SO much faster then the other..

- FIM and AMA each chose a layout to run based on what they believed would be the most exciting / interesting for the fans to watch...and they happened to pick different versions...

My two bits says the WSBK races will be really exciting and full of drama and great riding.. The AMA SBK races will have way too much of the Mat and Ben show and every now and then they'll mention there are other bikes supposed to be 'racing' at the same time. The real race (for third, fourth and fifth) will barely be seen as we watch the two Yosh (oops) Rockstar/Makita bikes run around like it's a team practice.

But I'd SURE like to know how Mat and Ben compare to the WSBK guys...

The ONLY comparison I can remember was from the MotoGP weekend at Laguna Seca a couple of years ago. Mat's pole time in Superbike would've put him 17th on the MotoGP grid.

But that's a whole 'nother level of racing. WSBK and AMA Superbike would be more "Apples to apples."

I don't usually get it that wrong, but I have to eat a huge slice of humble pie and admit that I was wrong about Careless Chucker after all : ) He seems to have found a new lease of life in WSBK. Well done to him, and I hope he keeps on winning : )

That was an exciting pair of races, the new CBR is looking fast.

Reuben Xaus looked like he was in a world of hurt after his crash in the second race, I hope he is not injured too badly.
