Who's done the spring upgrade from the 06 to 07 springs? Does it reduce the front end dive? Has anybody ridden an 08 enough to tell how the dive on the 08's is compared to the earlier forks? Trying to figure out if I want to upgrade the springs in my 06 forks to 07 springs or get some wilburs or put on the 08 front end. |

Paochow did it first I believe and I did it over the winter. I also switched to Amsoil Fluid at the same time. It completely eliminated my front end dive. I was one of the few with massive dive under normal braking. Touching the front brake lever was complete compression of the front forks on my bike. No longer. I can't say if it was the springs, the oil, or the combo, but it worked wonders. They also handle rough roads much better now too. The '07 springs are cheap and easy to do. I'd have to recommend that route unless you really have a need for increased lock to lock. |

I'm not sure I was the first, but I was an early adopter of the 07 springs. Great mod for the $50 or so it cost for springs and oil. JmHinkle is right it really fixes the dive issue under braking. Make sure you set the oil level lower (172 mm from top w/forks fully compressed. ) and switch over to the 07 suspension settings (found in the 07 owners manual on the Buell owners section of buell.com) |

The 08 front is being seriously considered. The Uly is my commuter bike, so I'm frequently in parking lot situations that could use the extra steering lock. Work is moving me to a new office building in Nov that has a very tight parking lot. The parking lot might not be so bad if it wasn't filled with "fat chick sports cars" (Suburbans) and "Mid life crisis trucks" (Diesel quad cab trucks) |

I made the switch too, the handling and ride improved immensely. Much more controlled response to surface irregularities, freeway ride improved considerably. I run front and rear at the '07 specs now, very happy with the swap. Very worthwhile conversion for the $$! |

After I got done teaching a BRC at Offutt Air Base the other day I decided to try the 06' ULY in the U-Turn box on the range. I was just able to do the U-Turns but only with the steering locked both ways. I went into it not thinking it would make it, but it did, though it was yellow line to yellow line to those of you who are familiar. It certainly would be nicer having that 08' front end. |

Back on topic, the '07 progressive springs are worth the expense. Now that I've made the spring switch, our Duc is now the "Front Dive Offender". After a particularly poor experience this morning, I've now figured out that the Duc needs much more than a simple crank of rear preload to handle a passenger. While the Uly may be sensitive to setup, I've never, ever bottomed out the Uly in a corner with a passenger...our MTS now has a carrot sized grind-mark on the heat shield, and the regular operator of the Duc is not too happy, especially when she thought we were going to lever off the back wheel in mid-corner. L_JE is now very close to losing his two-wheel-commuting privileges! |

...even though the beards do chafe a little! Let's not go turning this into a sequel to "Choppertown: The Sinners." Any of you who have seen the documentary will know what I mean... |

Yeah. It's the beard. It chafes when we spoon. I wasn't going to tell you so as you wouldn't be concerned, but that wasn't me. You went back to 3C Central(a place I had not been)and passed around that quart of mountain spring water(again I wasn't there, I had nothing to do with it). So you will have to work on that little puzzle, won't you? Who's beard was chaffing Ft_bstrd? Inquiring minds want to know. I just want to be clear here, It wasn't me! |

How did we get so far from changing front springs? I have the stock '06 springs and at nearly 22,000 miles I should be changing my fork oil soon. I haven't done it yet, but it still feels good and doesn't dive any more than it did when it was new. I need to re-torque the steering head again(first time at 8000 miles). Does any one know at what point the steering head will no longer need to be re-torqued? It seems that at some point the bearings will remain "tightened up". |
