These Argentinians did 13,100 miles in one long ride on their Ulysses.

It is interesting to read their tech notes on the issues they encountered.

Are the high mileage bikes (say >25000) on the original rear wheel bearings? This issue s/b of concern to all of us if it is "real" but I am up in the air as to how prevalent the failures are and what causes them. See bearing failure thread.

28K
Original bearings
Original belt
Original clutch cable
Original Fan
Original Front Rotor, replaced pads

Or all I've changed was fluids and spark plugs.

StinkyFinger,
First of all, I'll make sure to have a glove on if I need to shake your hand. Just loved reading that most excellent Argentinian travelogue.

Do we need a thread for non-failed bearings?

24K
Original bearings
Original belt
Original clutch cable
Original Fan
3 sets of tires

Seems like some of the LD riders haven't had the failures of the other shorter distance riders.

Just got back from a moto-camping trip at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (a little dirt riding to get there). The Uly (as usual) performed flawlessly. What a great bike.

32K miles
Recently installed Nachi rear wheel bearings
New clutch cable installed a couple months ago
Original belt
Original fan
Many sets of tires (Pro-Xtreme picture coming soon)

I commute daily (5 mi each way) and ride year round.

Check with Ft_bstrd. They were talking about looking at non-faied bearings as well.

I have just over 17000 miles on my XB9. Took it in for the 15K service not too long ago and was told that part of that service requires a new belt and pulley. Added lots of $$$ to my bill! I see folks here have double the amount of miles with the original belt still in use. Hmmmm

The manuals and web site say that the belt has no scheduled replacement timeline. If it was wearing out, then it had to have something else going on (warranty).

Supafast,
The 20000 mile service includes replacing the bike with a new one.

Supafast,

What year is your XB9? I believe the lifetime belt was a new thing with the Ulysses in 'o6.

The dealer told me that it was in the 15K service. I didnt examine the old belt for wear. Guess i should have. My bike is a 2003 XB9. They also said that I needed a new pulley. Why? Cant imagine how that part would "wear out"??? Its metal against a belt.....

I have some machines that use aluminum shivs and kevlar belts. The shivs look good until you put them next to a new one then the diff is noticeable. The shivs wear a lot faster in my industrial equipment then the belts. I do not know if that is true of the Uly.
