You may recall that I ordered some Avon "supermoto rain tires" to try on the Uly. They come in the "correct" size and have a decent tread pattern. Well, here they are...mounted and ready to rip for the ADVrider.com "West Fest 07" rally in Sipapu, New Mexico (about 100 miles from me). I'll give a full report on how they work.
By the way, any other BadWebbers going to the ADV rally? There's one Uly from Utah attending...anyone else? |

One of those tires seems on backwards. Also isn't the rear wheel width of the Uly 5.5 inches. The listed max for the tire here is 5 inches. (Message edited by Bertotti on July 22, 2007) |

They come in 180/55R17's on Motostrano. It was the first place I looked. |

I am very interested in the opinions of these tires. I will do a change to them also if they perform off road, a lot better then the syncs. |

From what Dr. Greg said in an earlier post, these are basically racing tires. I don't think he expects them to last very long. They do look cool. |

They are definitely NOT a new tire, since the rear tire was manufactured in 2002 (hopefully not completely dried out by now). They seemed to fit fine (mounted them meself) and in this morning's commute they jump around on the rain grooves a little, but I made it to work safely :-) Ironically I figured these tires would be better off-pavement, but I almost fell over riding out my dirt driveway. Duh, wake up Dr. Greg. They are supermoto rain tires presumably meant for racing, so I doubt they'll have much tread life. I'll give a full report next week. |

I've run through 2 sets of them on a KTM Duke II. The front holds up well, the rear tends to get abused pretty quickly, but not as bad as you would think. Each time I had a new rear on, I did a track day (HOPING for rain) -- dry and hot track each time. Still had enough for lots more street miles. |

Hey, thanks for the report. They might last a little longer than I expected. Still, the Uly is not noted for high tire mileage, so we'll see. |

Yea the front looks backwards to me. But what do I know. Hope they wear well and you have a good time with the ADV guys. They seem like a real hoot. |

The front may be mounted fine. I have a set of Pirelli MT60R Corsa's on my KTM 520. I also thought the front had been mounted backward until I found a direction arrow molded into the sidewall. It just looks strange. Dr, I like the look of those Avons. I've been hoping that Pirelli would add a 180 size to their MT60R lineup. Those Avons may be just the ticket for when my 12X needs some new skins. Best of luck and please keep us posted. |

Look great! I tried to order some but they were out of stock here (aus) due to the motard racers stocking up with the recent wet weather. Supposed to be a new batch on it's way. So I'm very interested to see your 'review' Greg :-) And yeah they do look great ay!! |

I've had Avon Distanzias on my bmw r80 gs for the last year and wish I'd discovered them years ago. By far the best wearing/riding tires I've had in the 11 years I've had this bike. I can certainly vouch for the Avon brand if not the specific model you have. Good rubber! |

I have Distanzias on my airhead and the Uly. I like them a lot. The 160/60 doesnt seem to be a problem as far as handling goes. |

When you are looking at tire treads, think of what it looks like from the ground up. The back tire has the engine driving it, but the load is reversed on the front tire because the brakes are driving it. From the pavements point of view the chevron pattern is going the right way |

I havent run the syncs, so I have no frame of reference. I think they do great on gravel roads, and tonight I got to try them in the rain. They work great, better than I expected. The tread is much deeper than the sync, and I think you would like them captain. I got them from ron ayres, they had the best price. |

Ps - Front tread is designed to dispurse water and grip best under decceleration (ie, turning or braking), where-as rear tread should grip best under acceleration. |

The tread pattern on Michelin Pilot Roads is the same way- the front is reversed compared to the rear. |
