Is anyone else annoyed with the damn clutch cable impeding the view of the instrument panel? I find it to be a pain in the arse when trying to look at the clock or check the mileage. Shouldn't have to lower my head to see what time it is. Has anyone done any mods to re-route the cable or tie it down and out of the way somehow? Please share if so. |

Mike, 2 small black zip ties will easily and gently solve the problem. Zip it to the crossbar. No worries. Jim in Santa Barbara |

Why mod the bike, when we can just mod you? By my calculations, we need to remove 3 or 4 vertebrae from your spinal column. While I'm not a doctor, I think I can perform the surgery at a mere fraction of what a real doctor would charge. Post-surgery, the clutch cable will no longer obscure the ODO, but instead, it will obscure the speedo at 5-10mph, and 150-160mph, and I've never heard anyone complain about the inconvenience of having to raise their heads to see these particular dial readings. Other advantages of this surgery: - you won't need to buy that tall windshield you've been looking at - hot moms will walk up to you in department stores and ask directions to the boy's clothing section - never bump your head again when you crouch down to sit in a sports car or you can wuss out and go with the zip ties -J |

Zip ties it is!!! Just didn't want to cause any clutch cable problems without asking my Uly brethren first. With that metal sleeve on the cable where it meets the clutch lever, would bending it down slightly fix the problem or cause harm? Great reply, L_je. Quite funny! |

Mike, I bent the black lever as you describe. It will help a bit. I would recommend placing a screw driver under the end closest to the clutch lever and bending the metal piece that way. It will prevent it from putting pressure on the cable and attachment to the handle. |

I zipped the cable to the handlebar to keep it from grinding away at the instrument housing, the view never bothered me. What bothers me is the clutch cable wireform that's broken three times... I've given up and what seems to work in order to keep the clutch cable away from the front exhaust header are 3 zip ties holding it to the front isolator mount. |

I had a zipped clutch cable break at 8000 miles. I will not zip tie the new one. I don't know if that made it fail, but I recommend that you don't pull it in any further than necessary. I rolled my bars back just enough that I can see over it. That also let me sit up a little straighter. L_je, Have you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express lately? I think it would be better to insert 2 more vertebrae and put him above the cable. Advantages of this surgery 1. He can sit up in the wind or be the man behind a B.A.W. 2. Hot moms will come over and ask about the mens department. 3. He will be able to see over the steering wheel of that truck he always wanted but couldn't climb into. |

Gotta keep the cable as "inline" as possible with the factory setup as the attachment point does not swivel. Moving the cable out of line can cause additional clutch effort, due to excessive side load. Some aftermarket lever assemblies have a swivel which allows the cable to move free, and remain in line. With the rox risers I can bring the bars back and up closer to me, and the cable is just above the odo. |

I found my clutch was really stiff compared to other Buells I'd sampled. I pulled the ferrule out of the clutch end and flooded it with DrySlide...viola! Smooth as silk. |

Crusty, that's a pretty far ride from San Jose, Ca. Only a few hundred more miles than from Massachusetts. Especially since I'll be taking the long scenic route there (via Niagara Falls and Lake Superior). I won't reveal any details about any solutions until I know for certain that it will happen. However, things are looking promising. I refuse to make promises that I can't keep. |
