Well I guess I'm having the same problem as some other guys are having with low mileage on tires. My weight and riding style are mostly at issue but hopefully I will do better now. All my rear tires have only been good for 2.5 to 3.5 thousand miles..... Sooooo I decided to go for the Metzeler ME 880 Marathon tires. 170/60/17 fits good on the rear. I was a little worried that the harder compound tire would be sliding my butt all over the place but so far I'm impressed. It sticks good and feels good. Now I just hope I get better mileage out of it. BC Steve |

Hello Steve, At 6,800 miles I am still on the original D616 front tire. Plenty of tread left in the middle but it is bald on the part I like to use. I am on my 2nd rear - the 1st D616 was toast after 2800 miles - the 2nd D616 has 4,000 miles on it and I've just hit the wear bars. So it's good for at least another couple hundred, eh? Not sure why the 2nd one has held up so much better than the first - perhaps a slight compound change? I have enjoyed the 616's very much - they've been "berry, berry good" to me. I am going to try to the Scorpion Sync's this time just for grins. See you soon at CAMS VII in Yosemite. Jim in Santa Barbara |

That's the tire I use on the rear of my ST-1300 along with a Z-6 on the front and I get 10k with it. But a 180/55/17 is available. Why not use it? |

If 180/55/17 is available in the ME 880 Marathons then I haven't seen them. Maybe it's a new size for them. The 179/60/17 is readily available at most tire dealers so that's what I got for now. It is within fitment specs for the rim so it should be OK. BC Steve |

8000 miles on my original D616 and still looking great! I may change them out at my 10,000 service but only since the bike will already be there because I think there will still be more mileage left in them from what I have experienced with them so far. I know that I am going to replace them with the original D616's again. |

Sorry about the typo in my last post. should have been 170/60/17............ Will see you at CAMS VII Jim! Cyclonedon, I don't think the D616s are available anymore since Buell went with the Scorpion Syncs as stock. How in heck do you guys get such good mileage? I've got 16K on the bike and I just put my 5th rear tire on it and my 3rd front tire........That's why I'm trying to find a harder compound. BC Steve |

I am very happy with the ME 880 rear I put on my 06 Uly 3000 miles ago. Center tread is wearing much better than the stock Dunlop. It doesn't hook up in corners like the softer Dunlop, but I have no problem with a little controlled slide every now and then. I ride dirt fire roads with my son here in South Florida and they perform just fine. I will contine to use a dual purpose front for that purpose alone, probably a Pirelli Scorp Sync, but my daily 90 mile commute is paved and I need more than a 4,000 mile life to a rear tire. Unfortunately we have limited choices for high mileage rear tires with the Uly specs, and I find the 170 Metzeler rear is really performing well. |

Happy to hear the ME 880 is doing well for you. I hope I get similar results with mine. Likewise I think I'll stick with the Sportek Z6 on the front because I like the profile and cornering ability. It also solved all the wobbliness I had when removing my hands from the bars on decel. None of the other tires I tried worked as good on the front. BC Steve |

Like some others here I am surprised by the mileage some folks are getting with their tires. I threw away my 616s at around 3K miles, they were not good on either the street or the dirt. I went with a set of Continental Road Attacks and have had good success with them. Looks like I will get around 4K out of the rear. If I ever get close to 5K miles out of a rear tire I consider it a major victory. |
