Hey guys I'll be picking up my new 2007 Uly from the dealer soon. I was going to have him install the ECM and high flow filter for me while I continue to research which muffler I want to go with. After initially confirming this would be OK to do, they are now saying that the Buell factory is advising " there are changes to the 2007 bike that does not lend itself to do these mods" Anyone else encounter this on the 2007 Uly ? |

I believe it is to not have my starting issues. I have the '07 airbox but also have the K&N and my bike doesn't inject enough fuel when cold starting. I actually have to crack the throttle when it fires over to get it to catch. My dealer said the factory didn't recommend the high flow filter with the '07 airbox because of a lean condition at startup. I only see the problem when it is below 40 degrees outside and the bike is cold. Once it is warm there is no starting issue. (Message edited by jmhinkle on December 12, 2006) |

if he's installing the 'race' ECM, is the cold start thing still likely to be an issue? ( curious about this myself, now its come up, as I plan to go to the K&N,+ECM with a different exhaust completely) |

they aren't going to be able to put the race ecm on it and leave the stock muffler. The race ecm has no function to operate the muffler valve that all the 12s have. The bike will run like shit. Who told you it would work like that? 'cause it won't. |

Ulendo, I believe it will, because the Race ECM is not any different the OEM in the low RPM, low acceleration range. I can't remember if it is closed loop or open, but no matter it would take a custom tune to deal with the cold start lean issue. |

Daves, don't people with the race ecm and stock exhaust disconnect the cable and wire the exhaust valve open? |

Thanks. I'm new on the site and this is my first Buell. I appreciate the input. Sounds like I should be able to use the race ECM and filter on the 2007 just fine as long as I install an aftermarket muffler, and I have not yet decided which one of those I want yet. What I told my dealer is that I'll run it stock for a while and see how I like it before making any changes. I've been researching and test riding bikes for the last year and the Uly just kept coming up to the top of my list. I am really looking forward to getting this baby delivered. There is a lot of value in the knowledge on this site. You guys made it easy to pull the trigger on my Uly selection. Cheers |

Fastfxr yes, you could wire the valve open but from what I have heard it kills the low end power of the bike? I've never tried it so I do not know for sure? Nomad Yes, you can run the race ecm and filter with a different aftermarket muffler that does not have the valve. You are going to love the new bike! I think the best, all around, not too loud pipe for a uly is the Drummer. If you want it loud I can hook you up with a D+D. |

I ran the race ECM and open air on my uly with the valve wired open. Like Daves said" It kills the bottom end." With the Valve in the closed position it lost mid and upper power. |
