My top case mounting latch just broke yesterday. The odd thing is it broke the metal part that the key turns on the mounting latch and came open while riding. The case popped off on the dirt road to my house and scratch the silver overlay piece, but otherwise was fine. Has any one had the mounting latches break yet? I thought the latches that were breaking are the ones that close the lids?

We had a cam break that locks the bag onto the frame. That was our first failure. We were lucky that the bag stayed attached to the frame. We also had the latch break as well. Daves came through both times and we had a replacement bag the first time and a latch shipped to us just before my husband's Daytona trip the second time.

Call whoever you purchased your bags from or see if Court pops in on this thread. He's been instrumental in getting these issues dealt with for several BadWebbers. Be sure to give your key code so you can get the same one again.

I'm tired of the problems with the H/B's. I really want my Buell to have Buell stuff on it. The cases have great capacity but that's about it. The capacity is gained at the expense of narrow dimensions, which does make a difference in SoCA fwy rush hour negotiations.

Tourtech's 41L deep cans look interesting, and the mounts look good too at least on their site. I don't like their design's elimination of the Uly's Triple Tail and grab rails to install their rear carrier.

Skinny tall cases might not be as convenient to utilize as the cavernous H/B's, but they also come closer to Buell's Trilogy of Tech goal of centralization of mass. I don't use my top case but I like the bracket on there, except for its crooked welding it's great for a bungeed small package when you have a passenger or rear seat bag. Stronger IMHO than the Triple Tail rotated out.

Until something better comes along I guess I'm stuck with the H/B's.

guess what everybody....my third latch just broke.. in the same place... i think the rubber gasket slipped down and caused stress this time..... .. I guess i'll call buell tomorrow again...i am learning to live with the routine failure now.. as long as i keep getting supplied with new latches... H&B need to make the latches out of metal.. end of story. 1200+ miles in five days the bungees holding the bags together worked wonderfully.. maybe Buell should approach one of the bungee mfg. companies when a new set of side bags are needed... its all good.. Eric if you are reading this .. I don't hold buell responsible for the low quality bags (that is H&B's baby)... the rest of the bike performed swimmingly.. popped two grommets on the tank bag on its maiden voyage.. i know Buell will send me a couple of those two.. cheers...

It's really very simple. If you are closing the latch and there is resistance then you need to see why the resistance is there. You should be able to close the lids with little or no resistance. I learned this quickly and in 13000kms of touring I have had no problems with the latches or bags but you have to be careful. You need to push the 2 halves together and then use the latch to lock the bag not pull the 2 sides together.

thunder . there is always resistance when closing.. i broke the first latch with nothing in the bag the second had a pair of shoes in it... its the cheapest bag H&B makes
..the latches just need to be made of metal.I spend more time readjusting the load in the bags than i do pre ride checking the bike.i think i will just take the issue to H&B .. It is not Buells fault.... i bet you other owners ( not Buellers) all over the world have had the same issues.. and again i must say bags should be rugged ...think of all the owners that know nothing of the Bad web.. how many latches are failing out there that we know nothing about... dont get your hackels up.. i am not attacking buell... the issue started from day one bad gaskets and mounting problems... im passed all that as long as i can keep getting my latches...MAKE THEM OUT OF METAL!!!!!!!!!!
you don't work for buell or H&B by the way.
No hard feelings thunder.. we are still family right?
