I remember when Buell was bragging about mapping the hot spots on the seat during its development. I wonder if they included the rear cylinder head as the main hot spot generator?? I did a 360 mile ride yesterday and my ass was on fire. Sure it was over 100 out but I'm thinking the hot air off the rear cylinder was the main culprit. What do you guys think?

I rode 984 miles this weekend, and had no problem with the temperature of the seat. I have the low seat and the heat on my butt was very tolerable; even though the temps were in the '90s.

Were you riding with just your shorts on again?

I ridin' long days in 90+ weather with Joe Rocket riding pants and did not experience the heat problems that I do if I was just wearing levis.

Cotton doesn't cut it.

If you really think the heat's coming up from the rear cylinder head, here's a pretty cheap trick which may help.

(I just did this on my Sargent-reworked 2000 S3 seat. They installed denser foam which seems to have doubled the heat transmission from the oil tank on my tuber.)

Go to your favorite home repair supply store and buy a roll of HVAC foil tape. It used for sealing joints in ductwork and for sealing the insulation. It's NOT standard old silver "duct tape". This stuff is basically a 2 or 3 inch wide roll of thin aluminum with an adhesive backing. You unroll it, trim to length, peel off the paper backing and it sticks like superglue.

I covered the underside of my S3 seat with this yesterday and based on ~2 hours of riding in 90 degree F heat, I'd say it's a dramatic improvement. It couldn't hurt to try it on your Uly.

Ductboard tape, aluminum, thats what is is sold for. Great adhesion at high temps. Also used for foil insulation seams too.

I was wearing blue jeans and that was probably no help at all. Is that BMW insulated single sided adhesive foil sold at auto or cycle dealer?
Lowflyer, my ass was so hot I kept smelling bacon cooking and kept daydreaming of eggs over easy.

That adhesive backed aluminum tape would probably be real good for hair removal if that's a problem for you...

Does Odie make a heat shield for under the Uly seat? worth checking out.

I used that aluminum tape on the bottom of my airbox pan to reduce intake air temp/density, not sure how much effect it has,
but it certainly can't hurt. I intend to do the inside of the frame if I ever drop the motor.

My wife tried that NAD stuff on my back once and my eyes actually teared up with the pain. Aluminum tape might be less painful.

In my trade (HVAC), we use the foil tape and torches. If you think the tape would be painful for hair removal, just try the torch!

Now where is that Lowflyer?

I the under seat and the side seat shields that odie makes and I have felt a definite difference in the heat, so much so that my wife now notices the heat before I do. I might add that his turn around time is quite fast and the quality of his products is excellent. I am trying to get him to design shields for both sides of the gas tank as mine was 133F. in addition to being uncomfortable it can't be good for the gas. T3

That's exactly what I was talking about with the tape on the frame Todd.
