I am thinking about replacing my low beam headlight with an hid unit. As hid's don't like to be turned on and off a lot I was wondering if anyone knows how to wire the low beam so that it stays on when the hi beam is on. I appreciate the help. T3 |

If you search on here somewhere there is a post that tells how to do this. It's as simple as a small jumper wire in the light switch but I don't remember the colors to jump off hand. Some people have some concern about overheating of the wires in the switch if this is done but I haven't heard of anyone melting a switch yet. |

I copied and save this from an earlier post. Might save you some time searching for it. DISCLAIMER: I have not tried this myself yet. Let us know how your HID lights turn out, been thinking about pulling the trigger on them myself. Stock lights are terrible if you do a lot of night riding...and I do. Tim "Sure, the easy one was the lights. After opening the switch you will notice three wires coming from the high/low button, you will need to add a jumper between the blue and the yellow wires. I used a standard blue scotch-lock connector with the ends trimed off so it would fit in the switch housing, and placed a sealant in the scotch-lock to prevent coroasion. Afterwards everything will work normally except you will now have both lights on when in the high beam position. |

I have 2 driving lights, low beam and high beam on at once, all 55w each, no problems so far (9 months) |

Since the HID light pulls less current, overheating the harness might not be a concern. It wouldn't even be a factor at all if you wired it up using a relay. |

So, nobody has melted or burned up anything in the housing running both of the stock lights at the same time? |

Nope. I stuck the switch in the centre (kinda) position so they both are on about 5 Months ago... Not a worry. N x |

run a seperate circuit from one of the EMPTY positions in the fuse block under the seat. the HID bulb may well use only 30 watts when it is all warmed up, but the ballast and ignitor draw substantially more amperage when starting and warming up the lamp. steady state draw was 3.8 amps, but i remember a pretty big hit to light it up initially. i got my HID from xenondepot.com, came from canada, and took a while to arrive. the ballast and ignitor fit snugly behind the flyscreen, after i moved the horn out of the way. the HID is very well worth installing if you ride after dark. as you noted it is ONLY appropriate for the LOW beam, and MUST be wired to stay on continuously. I strongly recommend NOT wiring it into the stock headlight wiring. |
