I finally got my Uly Tall shield a few weeks ago and LOVE IT!! My buddy just got one and it is different. His has less of a turn out at the top and appears to be slightly thicker. Does anyone know about these changes and why?? |

I believe you bolt the 14 inch screen in place of your front plastic. The original mounts were not intended to hold a barn door. You are supposed to feel the wind on a naked bike. I have a bunch of 8 hour days on my Uly, and it does make my shoulders tired, but I find the wind protection very good for what the bike is. That said, I am looking into the cee bailey +2.5 to see if the extra width will help with the shoulder area. Putting a large piece of plastic on the front of a bike with the geometry of the Ulysses is asking for trouble. Bigger is not always better, and with the laminar flow of the Uly windshield, you can get away with doing more with less. Putting on the large cee bailey removes the laminar effect, and changes how the shield reacts to the wind. |

Cee Bailey's 2.5 works for me. I start getting gorilla arms at about 90mph, but under that, it's fairly comfortable. |

Just added the laminair Lip to mine and tried it out on a 300 mile trip. I was pleased- the lip moved the airflow up to my neck, took the blast off my chest. It's noisier- I am now wearing earplugs. Style is good, doesn't look like a barn door |

OK, how about putting the laminar lip on the Cee Bailey's +2.5? That will be my next experiment, after I get done working on my experimental seat (oops, that was a secret). |

"OK, how about putting the laminar lip on the Cee Bailey's +2.5?" Careful, the wind will probably pull the windshield right out of the mounts. Also I think the flip on the +2.5 will spoil any laminar effect from the "lip". If you try it.. have someone take a video... it could be entertaining! Lots of guys with other bikes with shields cut holes in them to reduce the low pressure area behind the shield and reduce buffeting / noise. Anyone try this with a taller C.B. or Buell shield yet? P.S. I also have a Cee-Baily +2.5 and give it a high recommendation. They really work well. |

the spacers that hold the shield work the same way as cutting a hole. It allows air to pass on both sides of the shield. That is the "laminar effect". |

That makes sense. But I can put my hand behind the windshield and not feel any air coming from under the spacer area. |

Mb- OK here's a quick idea of the ex seat: I too would like to touch the ground someday so I thought to myself-what is stopping me? One thing is the too tall frame which I can't do anything about. The other is the too tall seat....hmmmmmm. Even the low seats are too tall. How tall is the seat pan all by itself? I took the cover off the front of the stock seat and removed the two inches of foam. I sat on the plastic pan by itself---great altitude but very uncomfortable. Now I am experimenting with putting a small gel pad on the seat pan to get the ultimate super low seat. Sounds exciting, doesn't it. I think I am on to a great discovery. When the idea is a little more worked out I'll share it in a new thread. |

How did this thread go from Bondo's original question to leg lengthening ? And what about the difference in ULY tall windshields? |

Bosh- A guy did that in the movie Gattica-you ought to rent it. It looked very painful. Hey, how about those windshields? Do the +2.5 and +4.5 Cee Baileys come in a regular and a euro flip version? Would the laminar lip work on the regular one? I called laminar lip one time and asked if they could get one of their lips on any aftermarket windshield and they acted less than enthusiastic about exploring that market sector. What other company can I call and bug?? |

Just returned from a 2200 mile trip on my Uly. Factory "tall" windshield. Much better than the stock, but still not what I want. I'm going to start clamping my "factory" shield to my "tall" shield at different heights and angles. I'll post again if I get significant improvements. Peace Milo |

"How did this thread go from Bondo's original question to leg lengthening ? ....Anyone try the new coconut-banana frapuccino at Starbucks? Haha. "And what about the difference in ULY tall windshields? Bondo1007's probably the only one that has seen both together. If both shields Bondo saw are Buell OEM they are refining their design. Probably to get cleaner air flow and mabe to address the pulling out of the mounts issue seen in the taller aftermarket screens. |

There re 2 of us in PA who have the 16" Baileys and have cut a slot in them on the recommendation from Baileys to relieve the low pressure noise/buffeting. It works!! The first one is on a ULY with a low seat that is going to Alaska (leaving the 14TH)over the course of the next 3 months and the rest of the country. Mine is just staying in and around PA. Baileys built a new version for Vern's that has a lip/deflector on the inside of the slot to change the air flow up behind the shield. I have not ridden his, but he says it solved his buffeting problem completely. Mine has just had the slot cut in it and it took about 75-85% of the noise away. There are no pictures of the shield with the lip yet but maybe Baileys can help. |

The slot was cut in the bottom center of the shield 1.5 inches above the black and is 5/8 inch tall and 6 inches wide. I am trying to get good pictures of mine to post but my camera doesn't have the resolution to compress them here. |
