I just recently read on another site that popping or backfiring from the exhaust was a sign that the bike is to lean. I am wondering this because mune does this, it always has but since i put a drummer on i hear it loud and clear. Does anybody have an answer to this. Thanks |

Mine did that when I wired the valve open on my stock can. I wonder if a TPS reset would help. |

I don't think it's running too lean all I know for me is that my fan runs a lot less now so to me that means all is well?? I think even with the RACE ECM you'd still probally back fire. |

I have said this before and I guess it needs said again. The fan is there to regulate temperature. If it isn't coming on at all then the bike is not reaching operating temperatures or the fan has malfunctioned. This is not good. The engine needs to be at operating temp to work it's best. Hearing the fan come on is not a bad thing. Why is everyone overly concerned about the fan coming on. You drive your car and the fan comes on and off all the time. It isn't overheating it's regulating the temp where it should be. It's exactly the same with the Uly fan. Let it do it's job and be concerned when it doesn't come on at all not when it's working properly. (Message edited by thunderbox on February 16, 2006) |

Thunder, I agree with your statement. If the fan never comes on then problems like condensation buildup will probably be seen on the dip stick. I'll take a properly warmed up engine over acidic oil eating the guts out of my engine any day. |

Nice to see someone understands some of the issues with not reaching operating temperatures. Very important to engine longevity to have the oil up to operating temp. I think I need to get an oil temp gauge just to see what it gets to. On the Police motorcycles we have they will see 290F regularly. I think I will look for a set of Oil Temp and charging voltage gauges for the Uly. |

Thank you Thunder man! You speak the truth. Popping/backfiring can also be a symptom of leaking exhaust header gaskets, the ones at the header to cylinder head interface. |

Let me clarify my fan does come on.... whenever I shut it off it comes on for about a minute hiway driving makes it come on and sitting in traffic makes it come on! |

Geez it's okay!! I was told the reason it does that is your headers are hot and when you roll off the throttle fast, some un burnt gas exits the engine and then egnites on the hot headers. If you are really worried call a shop with an air fuel reader and makes sure it's all within spec. |

make sure you have the throttle all the way off when decelerating. if you have it cracked open a little it will pop in the exhaust from the small amount of fuel being metered into the cylinder. |
