Wondering if anyone could tell me what the proper Ulyesses suspension settings are for my weight, 250 lbs wet and ready to roll. I picked up my Uly today but the dealer could not locate the owners manual. They gave me one for a Lightning instead until they can find mine. Thanks in advance for your help.

Jim,
These are recommendations from the Uly manual for a person 230-260lbs.
Front
Preload: #of lines showing; 4
Compression: 1.5 turns out from max.
Rebound: 1.5 turns out from max.

Rear
Preload: # of turns in from min; 12
Compression: 1.5 turns out from max.
Rebound: 0.875 turns out from max.

Here's a question regarding suspension settings:

When I picked up my Uly around 6 weeks ago, it was my understanding that the dealer had set up the suspension for me. Wanting to get familiar with the settings (this is my first bike with fully-adjustable suspenders) I took the time to go through the setup using the manufacturers recommendations this past weekend.

First: What a big difference! I was quite happy with how the bike was handling before, but found that it was set up for a significantly lighter rider. Stiffening up the suspension has improved it even more. I LOVE THIS BIKE!

Here's the rub: When traveling at slow speed over ruts/bumps in the road, I get a resounding CLUNK out of the rear suspension. It doesn't hurt me, but is a bit bothersome. At higher speeds, this doesn't happen. Can anyone tell me what might be going on here? I'm wondering if the rear rebound dampening is set just a bit too high, but don't really know. I know some bikes have independent high/low speed suspension settings, but not the Uly. If the bike handles great do I just accept this, or is there something I should look at to improve it even more?

I was talking with a guy who works as a HD regional rep here in the Benelux when I stopped in at the D shop in Amsterdam and he said that they have found that the bike seemed to work better if the suspension was setup 1 step higher than what is recommended in the manual. I haven't been able to try it (my bike won't be here until Mar/Apr) but he said that they had done that for everyone who had bought/test rode a Uly and it was perfect.

Smcnamara, I have heard that sound too but am not worried, I don't think you can set up a bike to handle on corrugated dirt roads at low speed and then with the same settings have it handle really well on the tarmac, there's always a compromise. I think the clunk may be the rear suspension topping out but not sure. At this early stage with 2 years warranty and knowing how strong these bikes are, I'm not losing any sleep. Play with the dials, that's what they are there for, and let me know what you find : ) !

Clunking noise probably the shock slamming open because of either too much preload, not enough dampening, or a combination of both. If you drop your back wheel over a curb and you hear it clunk when the wheel drops then its slamming open.
