Today was the first day I rode my new Uly in the pitch black to and from work, and I have to say that the headlights are abysmal. Both beams are adjusted way too low, especially the high beam. My friendly owner's manual says of aiming headlights, "See a service manual". How helpful. Can anyone out there shed some light (pardon the pun) on how to adjust the headlights?

Manual section 1-48
Horizontal alignment:
Loosen fasteners on right and left side of the headlight housing to adjust (one small access hole either side just to the top front of the indicators)
Vertical alignment:
Loosen fastener on the bottom of headlight housing to adjust

It's not the same without pictures, but I hope this helps

Cheers
-Jack

I just changed my 55w high beam out with a 100 watt "super white" (whatever that is) and adjusted the aim up as Rhino describes. The difference is uhmm, like night and day. Best $14.00 you can spend.

"Loosen fastener on the bottom of headlight housing to adjust"
By the way, this is under the fender if you haven't found it yet.

Great. I can do $14.00. Where does one get these 100 watt bulbs? Is that something my neighborhood Pep Boys stocks, or does it come from a cycle specific source?

I got mine at the Buell dealer but I bet they will have it at the auto parts store.
Box says:
Eiko H7100 Super white H7 100 off road use only.
Halogen auto bulb.

Danke. Autozone will be my first stop in the morning. I live out in the sticks, many, many deer in the roads.

Dmcutter,
My headlights were beaming down about 15 ft in front of the bike, the brights were about 10 ft. After reading the manual and having the same reaction to the lack of information, I took it back to the dealer and let them adjust it. Didn't have the proper tool anyway. Now I can see.

Just got back from the dealer-took the same tack as Bienhoabob...turns out, it is just the torx screw in the middle of the fender-loosen it and the lights pivot up and down. The proper size torx wrench is in the tool kit, but a screwdriver with a torx hear has a little more leverage in that confined space. I think I'll give the stock bulbs a shot, properly adjusted, before I go to the 100 watt bulbs. Reepicheep, do you think that's an honest concern or are you just poking fun at us blind old guys with bad night vision?

Running more wattage will be more heat...seriously. You should also consider that the electrical circuit is running nearly twice the current too.

On my 9R the housings are pretty hot to the touch...I have also experienced an 9SX and they get pretty hot as well even though the housing is bigger.

Maybe we could put a couple more of those howling,
loud as h***, wake the dead fans up front to cool off the headlight housing.

I want a carbon fiber air scoop for cooling instead.
