Can someone tell me what this is, obviously disconnected and no cable present, on a 07 Uly? Also, how can I get a shop manual for this bike? Many thanks as usual!!

It's the interactive exhaust servo motor. If your bike doesn't have the stock muffler it's not needed. Contact St Paul H/D, ask for Lance. Or any HD dealer can order the service manual, if they are still available. |

That is the actuator for the valve in the muffler. You are correct and the pull cable appears to not be there either. Normal if you are running most aftermarket exhausts. |

Thanks guys! It has the stock exhaust, which I like the sound of, so I guess I should get the cable and hook it up? |

you should get the service manual, and then hook it up. the service manual is key to understanding and servicing. it will be one of the most valuable tools you have in the tool box., as well as this website |

You may have a HAWK pipe on your bike. It is not stock and is not better than stock. Just louder. Hooking up just a cable won't help. |

Next we need a picture under the seat of the ECM. Is it stock or IDS with "RACE USE ONLY" etched into the side? It is about 2" x 3" and like this:

The exhaust valve actuator isn't available any more. There is a long story behind why and it wasn't HD saying we don't want to buy them anymore. The short story is the manufacture of the servo changed and if HD was going to use a different manufacture they would have to do full EPA testing on it before they could release it. If anyone has one that is in-op I'm looking for one to see if we can get some made. |

Aren't some automakers now using them for air duct control? |

Yes, the Ford F-150 used the same servo and that what was being modified by one of the HD suppliers to be used on the Buell. The one from the F-150 doesn't have the correct cable cam and the cable mount. HDs supplier had to cut off the cable cam off the shaft and weld on the correct style. |

Interesting. I wonder if we could grind the weld off our original one and a new Ford one and then weld ours onto it. |

Here's pics, it HAS the RACE ONLY box, and here are pics of the exhaust, which I hope is stock. So, with exhaust and race only box, do I need to hook up the exhaust servo and plug it in? Once again, thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate this site and all your help. Love this bike, just got to understand it. Getting a manual next week for sure!

Exhaust is not stock. The stock one had one exit on the left side, your's has dual outputs. I'm not sure but that might be a Drummer. Whatever it is I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a valve in it so you don't need the actuator. I don't think the race ecm will even control it anyway. You should be good to go! |

That's the known race muffler for the xb bikes |

So the actuator motor in the first photo is not needed and can be removed. |

Thanks guys! I thought it was stock, as it's not really loud. It appears to run will with it, pipe is burning clean. |

That was a really good combination but they quit making it around 2007. The aftermarket pipes were all too loud for me so I stayed stock but I understand, as you mentioned, it's not THAT loud! I also noticed that your actuator is screwed together instead of riveted. That means it was the old style and was prone to failure. The previous owner did you a favor! |

You are blessed with the Race ECM and the race pipe instead of the Hawk pipe. Let us have a pic of the headlight. |

I had that Buell race pipe and ECM on my '05 City X, XB 9. It was a great set up. Just a little louder, ran perfectly, increased acceleration and top speed was moved up over 135. I would not be sore to find that on my bike. I would leave that servo controller right where it is. Save it for sale to someone needing one some day. |

It's not a big job to replace with the Ford part. The stock exhaust with actuator is a great performer. I put a write-up about how to modify and install the part here: http://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?52942- Disabled-exhaust-valve-actuator&p=587824&viewfull= 1#post587824 You can do it in an hour or so. Here's the headlights on my 07. Low beam is white light, but not very strong at all. High beam is a yellow light, but it's aimed down at the fender!

Looks like the low beam may have been replaced wit an LED. I prefer the Cyclops in the thread I am linking: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/803607.html |

The headlight housings hi and low are fixed one piece unit. About the only way the high beam could be independently out of adjustment like that is the housing is damaged or the bulb is not properly installed. Sounds like it has a stock H7 in the hi beam, left, and a Silver Star in the low, right . The stock bulbs give good life span, but are normal brightness. Both on do light things up quite well. Silver Star bulbs are bluer light, noticeably brighter, but lasted about half as long as stock. Several folks tried fitting HIDs or other high power bulbs, to have them melt the housings or damage the reflective coating. I have not heard much about the new generation LEDs replacing the factory bulbs, but a lit has been written about LED accessory lights. |

Does the aforementioned Cyclops cause heat problems? I'll take it apart today and see what's up with the aim on high beam. Gotta get this fixed so I can see where I'm going at night! This scooter begs to ride beyond the beams!!! |

Look at your headlight reflectors, it looks like they are starting to flake off. |

I prefer to keep my headlights stock as the replacement bulbs can be bought from any walmart for less than $10. I suggest you remove the flyscreen with the six screws just to have a look at what's behind there. Take a picture and post it here. The ground connection between the frame and steering parts is very prone to fatigue and leave you headlight-less. Solution is a simple heavy gauge jumper wire. If the wire is already there, you're pretty much covered. Once you do that I also suggest you chase the threads on that aluminum (10-32 I think)since the factory seemed to use a dull carrot to cut those threads |

I thought it was bug splatter. The one bulb looks to be an LED. If it was aimed for a poor LED the high beam could be way off to keep the LED out of on-coming traffic eyes. I haven't experienced a heat issue with Cyclops yet. I am not guaranteeing I won't. I know I can see at night. |
