Seriously, they do make automatic releases although some of them are not the best quality but if you could find some reliable ones that might do the trick!

A couple of people have posted up that running a large gauge ground wire directly from the battery to the engine makes a big difference in how well these things crank. It gets rid of the starter hesitation during cranking that a lot of us experience.

That might be a critical thing to do on this engine.

Interesting Hugh. Any suggestions on easy mount points to the motor?

I've done, cold soak engine cranking, voltage drop tests on the battery cables numerous times.
The results do not indicate that either cable is "too" small.

However, testing the theory should be easy enough.
Just attach a battery jumper cable to the engine and to the negative battery post.
Then give her a crank.

Actually I got a used 16 cell Ballistic Lithium battery for free; charged it, and put it in, and the bike fired right up with no hesitation at all. But now I have a LOUD ASS KNOCK. That isn't supposed to happen for another 3 months lol. Hoping it's something simple, but wouldn't surprise me if it isn't.

Interesting Hugh. Any suggestions on easy mount points to the motor?

IIRC, one poster said he just went from the negative battery terminal to one of the tie bar bolts on the engine; maybe the upper one under the airbox?

Naturally, I'm having absolutely no luck finding any of these posts, but I'm still looking!

On the note of the engine knock, I've found that it is cam speed, not crank speed, so most likely lifter and/or pushrod related.
