Movin' right along! Here I got the swingarm, oil lines, and various bits mounted.

Then I bolted the frame and subframe onto the motor, and after this pic I bolted the rear shock as well. Normally you would want the exhaust mounted before attaching the frame, but I won't get the exhaust for another week or so, and I want to make this a roller. I can do a simple motor rotation to install the exhaust later.

Next, I moved to the front end. One of the pieces I've wanted to use for a while were these Rooke Risers. I cut the lower handlebar clamps off the top tree a while back, and today I filled in the original clutch cable guide hole and drilled 1/2" holes to mount the Rooke Risers.

These risers were made originally for Yamaha cruisers with 1 1/4" fatbars that tapered to 1". Since my OSX One fatbar is only 1 1/8" (standard oversize for 7/8" controls), I made shims out of some perforated steel tubing I had and I glued them in place to simplify installation.

Here's a mock up of the trees and risers.

And what's this?? We have a roller! I installed the new CR forks, put a front tire on the wheel, and mounted it up so the bike can almost stand on its own (still waiting on the SS kickstand). After this pic I also installed the front brake setup with new ceramic pads. I may source a shorter brake line, as the stock Uly brake line is now about 8" too long between the shorter suspension and shorter, straighter handlebars. The clutch cable is a little long, but plenty useable. Really excited to see this build coming together.

Yeah, all that looks great, love the yellow accents and those bars look comfortable. Do the new front forks affect the geometry significantly, or?

The forks are essentially the same length as Lightning Long forks, and I have a Lightning Long shock and kickstand, so geometry will be the same as that. Not a Uly anymore.

Not a Uly anymore.

Your comment on the other thread has been making me think about names. Another good name for this creature would be "ex-X".

Looking forward to the end result,

I am so close now. I have a new name picked out, and want to keep the rest under wraps for now. I should receive the exhaust and last few bits next week. I'm going to great a new thread when I do complete it, and link it here. Thanks for watching : ).

Things are moving slower than I'd like, because of various reasons- job, weather, later shipping on the exhaust, etc. But if I somehow manage to get out of jury duty tomorrow, I should be able to get it running tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a sneak peak...

Ross- how did the height of the 1125 forks compare to your others? I'm curious if they're close to the XB12XT or XB12SS. Do they fit the stock triple clamps?

Thanks guys. Setback #273- I broke a rear exhaust stud >: ( . Hugh, the 1125 CR forks are the same length as the SS forks.

Also, yes, they fit in the stock Uly triples, though to keep the wheel centered properly, you need to shave .028" off the inner faces of the right fork leg (where the axle threads in, and where the caliper mates up).

Look'n good! I think you've gone through several stages, of motor hop-ups. You must be pumping some serious power by now.

The current build is a little milder than the previous setup I sold that motorwork to a friend in Denver. Currently it has ported and decked heads with oversize intake valves (1.840", leftovers from previous changes), ported manifold, XB9 pistons, and stock cams. Basically I paid $80 for this setup, and got a lot more than that for the previous kit. I still have installed the S&S lifters and Energy One clutch from previous iterations. My next plan this winter is a balanced 08 crank setup, 90" kit, and custom heads and manifolds I'm working on. I have an 08 motor I'm going to use for a jig once I have the time to work on it. I may even switch to the 08 cases/oiling system and wiring harness, who knows. Gotta finish one thing at a time. My wife is 20 weeks pregnant with our first child as well, so these plans could easily change and/or disappear anyway : p.

Forgot to mention; with the high compression, porting, and Micron, I think it'll still be around 105 RWHP and 90 FT/LBS.

I have to admit, in the beginning I thought "well this will look like shit, here we go again another hack job", but that thing looks really sharp. Nice job.

Thanks guys! Still a lot to do. I gotta wire in the new taillight, make some grounds for the electrical (they were all on the lower crossbar that I had to cut out), make a hump in the undertail to clear the shock (long frame has different shock location and geometry), wire up and mount the front end, hook up the handlebar controls, ASV levers that I previously disassembled and polished, and AME heated grips, and install the air box. I also have to decide on whether or not I use my chin spoiler, install the scoops, pulley cover, and hugger, repair and repaint the front fender (I accidentally cracked it), and sand and paint the tail section.

Thanks man!

Ugh! So close! I went to start it yesterday and it went, ren, ren, ren, and died out. Tried to charge my battery but I was probably too impatient as I never worked. Gonna put a proper charge on it today and try it again tonight. The added compression I'm sure is what is giving it fits. Hopefully my battery isn't toast. It's a 2 yr old Ballistic Lithium battery, and the only one that will fit. No room for a lead acid. If I have to order a replacement, it's $200 and another week of downtime : ( .

When I remember, in prep for cold soak engine startup; I put the Ulysses in 1st gear then with the clutch released. Roll the bike backward until I feel resistance.
Take out of gear and hit the electric foot, the inertia of the crank weight getting a full turn usually allows the starter to crank without pause.

They don't have any of those for XL motors. This is just a temporary setup anyway. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to swing a 90" build this winter. Gonna do up a set of experimental heads and manifolds for that build. I have a set of 08 cases and cylinders for a jig.
