I would like to buy a pair of plain straight-legged leather bike jeans. I want a relaxed fit like a pair of 501 boot jeans. At the moment, after searching the net, my favourites are a pair of Icon 1000 Roughshod Pants. Expensive but quality, I feel. Has anyone on here any suggestions, please?

I've never heard of leather jeans. But I do like the gussetted jeans that Aerostich sells on their site.

Maybe Americans call them leather pants?

Yes..over here, the word jeans imply pants made from a denim type material.

I don't have any advice to offer for leather pants. I prefer either armored denim jeans or textile (Klim) type pants.}

"Maybe Americans call them leather pants?"

Ahhh. Yes. Like the Village People. Sorry, I don't have any direct experience with those.

I know a guy here that rides in Dainese Vintage (I think that is what they are called) leather pants. They are cut and fashioned just like denim jeans and have kind of had a worn, weathered look. Pretty cool. Probably a pretty penny, too.

"For the less pedantic, jeans will do"

Word of the day: "PEDANTIC"

Well, I took "leather jeans" to mean leather pants that are cut and/or styled like blue jeans as opposed to some of the Power Rangeresque leather motorcycle pants on the market. Hopefully I wasn't being too punctilious.

I can be circumspect and contentious, and point out that a $100 pair of mesh armored pants from CycleGear that fit over your normal pants are probably a more functional choice anyway.

Thanks for the links, Buewulf and Luftkoph. The former look too tight and Vanson's don't look as good as the Icon 1000 Roughshod Pants, which look to be the best fit. In the climate I live in I think leather jeans are the most practical solution. No good in the heat of the Portuguese summer (I'm a Brit) but during the rest of the year they are better than armoured denims such as Hood and Draggin Jeans, as they can take a shower. Not a constant heavy downpour obviously. They are also better in terms of protection.

One of the old man's favorite lines...

Anyway, those Vansons should be very high quality. I suspect they'd be better than the Icon by some margin, seems like most Icon reviews reference a problem with fasteners/design problems. I guess if you buy from a reputable dealer they'd stand behind them, damn well better at that price. I think the Icon's would loose fit might work better on the Uly.

Here's another option, costs less than the Icon or Vanson and I'll vouch for the quality of Fox Creek products.

Best of luck!

Thanks, Woodnbow. I'll think things over, but I still like the Icons.
