Hey Guys. I have a 2006 Ulysses that has been an awesome machine to me. I took the bike on a 2300 mile trip last year from Central New York down the Blue Ridge Parkway into Tennessee North Carolina and back. The bike was awesome but I am a big guy and when the bike is loaded down with luggage and a weeks worth of clothes and gear the rear suspension doesn't keep up as well as I would like. I am hitting the road in June for a 2000 mile trip heading up the coast of Maine and was wondering if anyone knows of somewhere I can get a heavier spring or any other ideas are welcome. |

That depends on what you mean by it not keeping up as you would like it? |

How much is BIG? What kind of riding are you going to do? |

If you loosen the preload adjuster all the way and then tighten it just until you feel resistance, how many turns does it take? If it seems like it took too many turns, refill the fluid. This will get you more preload for the cost of a little hydraulic jack oil. |

Let's start with the basics - ARE you adjusting your suspension properly for the increased weight? More information please. It could be as simple as a proper adjustment procedure...and those are free |

Showa preload adjusters should reach tension within the first full turn. When filling, be sure to push the piston back into the cylinder, it does not automatically retract when the adjuster knob is unscrewed. |

I had the same problem and found the answer at Racetech Suspension (www.racetech.com). I now have a straight wound 7.6kg per millimeter rear spring and it's GREAT! The old rear spring is way too soft and when loaded, not only does it bottom out, but greatly effects handling. When apexing corners under power, the rear squats too much, changing the front geometry by increasing the rake, ultimately creating under steer. Now it's back on rails as it's meant to be. Well worth it (Message edited by Buellbill on February 11, 2014) |
