Hi there,

new to Buelling & the forum. i recently picked up a 06 Uly; a real dream come true for me! its in very nice shape with only 5k miles on it. i intend to make this my primary vehicle (i was previously driving a 60 bug). i ride and race mountain bikes, and i am looking for ideas on bike carrying.....
anybody out there do this? here is a shot of my temp test mount to see if it is feasible-

I saw someone on a MB trail one time who rode their sport touring bike with a luggage rack on the back similar to a Uly. I wish I would have taken a picture, but I think he had the front wheel off (the MB) and had strapped on the bike frame and rear wheel to one side and the front wheel to the other. He had at least a little custom fab as his mountain bike actually did appear to attach securely to mounts. As we get into mountain bike season I was just thinking about this myself because I'll have to make a choice every day to ride the Uly or to bring the car with my MB on the rack in the back. Keep posting if you come up with anything else.

You should add that pic you attached to your profile.

I'm more interested if the arrangement can work flipped over.
Ride the Uly up.
Flip assembly over.
Ride mountain bike down.

Best of both worlds, right?

Get a folding bike for carrying on the Uly.

Take a car when you need your "real" MTB.

Nice.
Another idea. I've done international travel with this setup and no problems.

i am going to flip the bike over and mount with front wheel off. that was just tester to see how it does in the wind. flipping a bike with hydro brakes isnt a good idea.
i need the mtb(and 20" bmx) to mount to buell as it will be my ride to the races and social events : )
@ desert bird:
i like you compact mounting, but as i understand it; all lights and plate must be unobstructed. do you get harassed for this set-up?

Never harassed. I have a separate LED brake light and the signals show fine when activated.

I do live in the Southwest where the law enforcement hasn't reached complete Stasi police-state levels, yet

I would be cautious with wind using your set up. That's like a sail up there. But then again, the Uly is pretty much a big sail itself!

Here are some other good examples of bike to bike mounts. Good luck and have fun.

This ended up breaking my license light which didn't matter (covered it with a reflector) until I moved to VA and took it to a competent dealership who failed it for not being there. Easily replaced.

No personal knowledge, but looks like less hassle than the methods posted previously.

little update:
i decided to go with a lower mounting; which left me less options. this is sample/mock-up of the idea......
replacing the rear peg with a universal axle. a frame mount will connect peg to the underside of seat. (more to come- pardon my terrible pictures)

it will be able to accommodate thru-axle and bolted fork- 26" to 20" bikes (i hope)

I think that cardboard will need another layer of duct tape to resist rain.

Please don't hit me. I'm delicate!

I think it's a very good idea to start out with the passenger peg mounting as it's already strong enough for a person.

I think you're on the right track.
Perhaps one saddlebag on the other side to counterbalance things?
