Anyone here know if this is legit? I've been wanting an EBR ECM for some time now but if a $100 option will result in the same thing as $300 for a whole new ECM, seems that it may be worth it. Thoughts?

you can get the maps yourself from buellmods.com and do it yourself.

I contacted the guy advertising on Ebay regarding a remap for '10 XB, which he said he had a map for... My main concern is what if I'm not happy with the results ? Is he going to stand behind his product ?

"you can get the maps yourself from buellmods.com and do it yourself." I looked at buellmods.com and there weren't any maps for '10XB12. Besides, I'm not all that wild about the learning curve associated with doing a remap myself.........But thanks for the suggestion.

If anybody has used the Ebay guy, some feedback would be much appreciated.....

That's a question only the the seller can answer.

There were discussions about the sale of modified Buell maps a while back. The consensuses here was that it was not cool to pirate the base ECM programming, modify it, then sell it as your own creation.

Let your conscious be your guide.

Note: for a couple hun' more EBR will cook one up to your setup. And, we know "THEY" stand behind their product.

Teeps,

After sleeping on it, I really think that spending the extra $$ and going with the EBR option is the best bet. Besides, I'd be supporting them and I'm all about keeping those guys in business!

Thanks for the thoughts

Its worth it, Had mine in a week. Once installed and tps reset all is well. She rips!!
And for a small fee they will remap your ECM it you happen to change something on your bike.
Its plug and play!

That must have made for an interesting discussion! I don't completely agree with that. It isn't any different than paying someone to dyno-tune a bike IMO - the software is accessed, the parameters changed. Now I would change my tune completely if they were selling the maps from the Buell Race ECM or maps that other people created and made (or didn't make) available. But if these are maps that they made from their own dyno/logging research, then I have no issue with that.

Anywho, I agree that you should just go with the EBR ECM. Plug, play and forget with a known entity standing behind their product.

Teeps, thanks for the feedback, but I was looking for people who had first hand experience in dealing with this company. I prefer to do business with people who stand behind their product. Lots of people and companies make all kinds of claims but not all of 'em actually stand behind what they sell.

I have not seen the topic about "modified Buell maps", I'll do a search....Are you saying you will not modify an ECM in any vehicle you own unless it comes from the manufacturer ? Lots and lots of aftermarket companies that offer modified ECM's/fuel, timing controllers whether it's motorcycles or cars/trucks. I seriously doubt that these companies all start from scratch in developing their maps.

I'm also more inclined to get the EBR ecm for the simple fact that I want to see EBR stay in business. EBR doesn't show a map for the exhaust system I want to use. I'm going to call EBR to see what they have to say......

Thanks for the feedback Fordhotline, that's the kind of feedback I was looking for,,,, people who have used the product.

Ride safe !

No, I did not say that...
And, there is a difference between tuning for personal use vs resale.

I looked at this ad before and I think it might be Opti-Inside.

As far as the legal side goes that would be HDs problem. They did not care about Buell so they may not be bothered about it.

They are many, many reasons why the same map may not work as well with one bike as another although it should be close. This is a brave Guy. I would not do it as, knowing people, it is just asking for trouble. Best of luck.

I am quite sure he was referring to the EBR ECM, not the eBay guy...

For some reason I thought Opti-Inside was in Florida. At least I recall reading a lot from this guy named opti or something like that. I learned from his writing how to data log (on my 07), then run that log through another program that would read data log for correction that is done by the 02 sensor, compare it to the maps in the ECU then write new maps for you. then you reflash your ECM. it was hard work finding all the directions because things started getting erased as he started selling his service.
one problem was he was running a fast reaction O2 sensor, which is not stock on the Buell. but mine ran so good I ended up leaving it alone.

fast reaction O2? please explain. how fast after a cold start would one of these start working? There's some speculation that the idle issue with my ebr ecm could be caused by the O2 kicking in too fast (say 45 seconds to 1 minute after start up) and trying to adjust the mixture to 14.7 but the engine isn't warm enough for that.....

X-opti is out of Florida and he has been a tremendous help with learning tunerpro. i'm not sure about his status here on badweb though. there's a bit of history we don't know about i think based off some old posts I've read.

there's another person from a different buell forum that will teach you how to tune your ecm for a fee, could that be him?

from my experience, one thing is for sure though... if you buy the ebr ecm, its time to learn tunerpro (that might be true regardless of your ecm though). anyone want to find out why, come over and ride my bike, just don't go near any bridges, because you'll be tempted to ride off of one....

Spacecapsule1-

Are you saying that your maddd skillzzzz with Tunerpro have empowered you with a bike that causes mere mortals humiliation and shame?

If so, I wanna learn. Gonna dive into the Tunerpro world after a roadtrip next week.

Sorry Portero, I wasn't referencing my tuning skills. I'm no guru. In fact I'm just beginning to learn a fraction about tunerpro. Fortunately, many people on this forum have been helping me.

I was just saying, based on my unfortunate experience with the ebr ecm, if one chose to buy said ecm, perhaps learning to use tunerpro would be a wise idea... to understand why, anyone can come over and ride the ol' STT..... but the bridge clause remains in place.

Yes.

From what I can tell there are a few more parameters then the stock ddfi3 ecm but i have no idea what a lot of it means. My intent was really to look for bad input that might be causing bad output from the ecm.... and maybe smooth things out a bit.

I need to dig into this TunerPro then. I have had it installed on my PC for quite a while, but I just don't know how to use it. I used ecmSpy for work on my old ECM before it gave up the ghost. Now I have an EBR ECM, and it could use a little tinkering. Is there a good "getting started" guide / thread out there?

"fast reaction O2? please explain." Thats a "wide band" O2 sensor rather than the OEM "narrow band" one. They cost a LOT more to buy and not needed for normal road conditions. A O2 sensor needs a little time to heat up to give the right numbers.

TunerPro is a very powerful prog and if you have problems a "logged run", and is a must, will show where those problems are IE BAS volts, battery charge, IAC/TPS/AFV positions, etc. It is the same sort of thing any dealer of cars/bikes would use to find a problem. These days its the only way with this sort of FI system. "Guess-t-mating" problems does NOT work.

There are no "magic bullets" for fixing a FI or wiring problem. You could have, for instance, as I have had more than one problem anyway. And if you, as I have been doing, try to learn all thats going on in the ECM system you will soon find out how "mind numbingly" complicated those systems are. Many a dealer will just "change out" a part until the problem is fixed but it may be you who has to pay a large sum that was only a 10$ part. Welcome to the 21st Century "Experts". Some still care though but they tend to be "old school" and a dying breed but I like them will still be able to fix our bikes on the "other side".

Realistically, if one cannot afford a $300 EBR ECM, this sounds like a viable option.

Anecdotally, I had a stock ECM on my '09 XB12S with K&N and a GB muffler. Backfired a bit, but ran great. I have an EBR ECM in my '08 Uly with K&N and APH muffler--my idle is rough, and I get an occasional hiccup.... I know it's the ECM cause I swapped another one (stock) in and she smoothed righ out. So my experience sort of mirrors that of the gentleman above with the STT, though mine is not terrible--just not very smooth. There are not guarantees, even with the tuner EBR ECM...
