Hey there. I have been looking through this site and ADV looking for rides that people have done with their Buell offroad. My buddy is selling a XB12STT and I am on the edge as I have seen some folks light dual sport other Buells. Can anybody help me out and show some pics or post links to sites/threads/pages where folks have used their Buell for some light offroad work?? Actually, the dirtier the better as I have a 2 stroke DS and like to ride the dirt.

Thanks a ton for the help.

paging mr cityx. cityx to the courtesy phone please.

Actually, just a couple of weeks ago I was asked by a good friend if I wanted to check out this cool dirt road he knew about. I figured since he's on a wide glide it would be a piece of cake so I agreed. We got there and he just zipped right on up the road. I went up about halfway and dumped the Uly. I forget the advice I give to folks sometimes- when in doubt, gas it!

I took my cursed 06 Uly to Copper Canyon in Chihuahua a few years back and did the dirt roads down into the bottom of the canyon. Trying to dig up pics. Bike has more capabilities than I have skill, to be sure.

I tried my Uly off pavement a few times. It was as capable as any street bike. The tires were the biggest hindrance, but with TKC-80's now available, that has mostly been alleviated. The inevitable issue, which I didn't realize till I tried other bikes, is the street bike geometry. What works well on pavement (Buells!) doesn't necessarily transfer to dirt (unstable!).

If you have off-road experience and TKC tires, you'll have no problem on basic off-road endeavors.

It's a street bike. It's capable of as much as the rider is willing to throw at it:

Thanks guys. That is kinda what I thought, a street bike that can be taken on some light offroad.

And sorry, I guess I should have clarified a couple of things. I live in Nothern BC, where the only real paved roads is the Hwy running through here (Hwy 16, the one alot of folks take to Alaska and the Cassier Hwy) and the roads in town. I am not expecting to take the Buell the places I go with my 2T DS, but I was thinking that it would be OK for some of the larger FSR's with the right tires, and can be pushed as far as I am willing to push it.

Prior to my 2T DS, I have had a DR 650 and an GS 1150 and a couple of other old smoker rides. I was kinda figuring that the Buell would be somewhat like the GS, but a HELL of a lot more fun on the slab. I love riding the Buell, it kicks the crap out of the GS for smiles. But I was thinking that it might be a weee bit better off road without that shaft drive and a few pounds lighter. I am not looking at replacing my 2T with the Buell, just to add another ride to the barn that I can go farther distances and take on some back roads when the slab gets boring.

I have seen that you can get TKC80's for it, and that is what I put on my GS right away. I liked that tire, it wore really good.

Also, my friend's dad has a Uly and I sat on it for a bit, but I have to say I love the attitude of the STT. That supermoto styling turns my crank. The Uly reminded me of a smaller version of the GS.

Please keep the stories and pics coming. That is how I learn, by real life experiences.

Thanks a ton.
