Hey guys, hopefully will be looking at an 06 uly, has 15k miles, forks have been rebuilt and stock besides that. It does come with side bags, but I am not sure about top bags. I am hopefully trading my vulcan 1500 for a gsxr1000 in turn trading for the uly. That is my plan anyways : ) Ive had a couple sport bikes/cruisers and a kawi concours 1000. Im hoping the uly wont be as top heavy as it was, but just as reliable.

Where does everyone get their OEM parts at when needed?

There is no way I can afford an xt, that is why im looking at the x's, plus they are rare in my parts (EAST TN, about 1 hour away from the dragon)

Anything In particular I need to be aware of?

I guess what worries me, is not having a company to back a product, kinda you're on your own. My father and I can work on jap bikes, but the Buells will be all new.

Lucas- welcome to Badweb. Sounds like quite a deal you're working to get that Uly! Good luck.

You can still get OEM parts from HD dealers that support Buell. Check the listings at www.buell.com. The nearest one I know of to you is Bumpus in Murfreesboro, but that's not very close.

American Sport Bike, a Badweb sponsor, stocks many OEM parts as well as aftermarket stuff. They come HIGHLY recommended by anyone who's dealt with them. Al can usually get OEM parts that he doesn't normally stock.

Check the "New Ulysses Owner Information" (link at the top of this section, or just go here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442053.html?1238017122) for more than you ever wanted to know about Ulys.

Buells are very home mechanic friendly. If you can work on Japanese bikes, you won't have a problem with the Uly.

Thank you : )

The bike I am looking at has the side bags, but not the top bag, is there anyway to get this bag, or should I just go with some other type of JCwhitney topcase? The backrest that comes on all the buells, can this be used to mount a topcase?

The bags are made by Hepco-Becker. You may be able to find a generic one (i.e.- not Buell branded) from them. Otherwise, keep an eye on ebay and the classifieds here.

Better to have the rack than mounting to the backrest/official name is "triple tail".

I have two. One with a HB topbox that matches the HB sidecases. Supercool! One with a JCW cheap box. Smaller, but also semisupercool!

Datsaxman, I usually run the JCwhitney top cases or like there of, I can get an awesome top case for $60ish, just wondering how it would mount up to the hepco baker sides.

FWIW, I have had a top case mounted to the triple tail for the past 2-1/2 years with no issue, though a true rack would no doubt be more reliable. I can't recall how big the case is. Not huge, but a full face helmet fits inside, no problem. I'd say I never have more than 10lbs worth of stuff in there at any one time.

The top bag is TC40 Hepco Becker Journey case (just confirmed with Hepco Becker - according to them any top case made by Hepco Becker would fit the bike though, it's the same mounting system).

You'll also need the rear rack by Hepco Becker to mount the top case, you can get one here: http://www.amotostuff.com/product/650-799-01-01.ht ml

Bosgarage57,

try http://www.searchtempest.com/
Search for Buell Ulysses and it will show every one listed on craigslist nationwide based on distance from you! Great way to get an idea of pricing and mileage. I found a ton of them today just messing around. But no way the wife is letting me get away with another bike since the XT I picked up 2 months ago.

Good Luck!

that is what I've been using, the thing with search tempest, and CL in general, when people sale their stuff, they dont remove it. i've called about 4 around me and all are sold. Closest ones are about 300 miles away.

Might finally be going to look at one that is pretty close to me, question though. He said he dropped it on the side, and the latch on the bag broke, the one that locks it onto the bike. Anyway to get just that latch? would I need to contact Hebco and ask? If so anyone know the model of the bags on the 06's?
