The first weekend of sept myself and 4 friends are going to strike out to east Tennessee. Will be leaving from the Nashville area with a overnight stay at my condo in gatlinburg.

I have ridden the Cherohola Skyway before and the tail of the dragon. So those are always a option but I figured that some of you east tn guys could probably give me a heads up of some nice scenic roads.

What are your favorite roads?

Don't know if I can say this here but if any of you guys ever want to go to gatlinburg I will give a discount to forum members. $45 a night if you mention this forum.

I rode down into that area from Mass last year. We were on the Cherohola and the dragon. We did a day trip up the Blue ridge parkway in NC till we hit route 80 south. Then rode up route 226 north to route 226A which takes you back to the Blue Ridge parkway. Was very twisty!

Thanks, I know there has to be a ton of good roads out there. Since I only have two days to get there and back I figured this way I can take the best route possible with some help from guys that have ridden there before.

Ft_bstrd, Barker, Chadhargis are all from your area as well as Mr Tom Bumpass of your local HD/former Buell dealership. I have not seen them on here too much lately, but they have made the trek just about every way it can be done on their Buells.

Being here there are so many great roads, I don't know where to start. I have left my place at seven am for a little ride, only to get home at nine pm five hundred miles later. My favorite way to pick a route is to glance over a good map about four days before the ride. Then pick a direction and ride until I am lost. Then going a different direction find my way home.

If you look at a map of the Great Smoky Mountains and the areas 100 miles around it, just find a squiggly line and ride it, tie some of them together for the amount of time you have to ride. There are gas stations and restaurants all along the routes. I think the longest route without them is over the Cherohala (60miles) or if you ran Cades Cove loop over New Found Gap to Cherokee(about 60 miles).

Do not ride through Gatlinburg on weekend days or evenings, nor on any summer holiday weekend. That would be a long hot walk in traffic.

Maryville to the West has everything you could want, Sevierville/Pigeon Forge will to but more tourist like. Asheville NC to the East is like Knoxville to the North, big and accomidating and not more than a hundred miles out.

To pick a couple of routes other than the Cherohala and the Dragon, 28 is excellent, Newfound Gap (411) is a beautiful but slower ride, just avoid slow traffic times. 321,129,72,160 and all of there side routes are awesome. You don't get to see the beauty of the area if you just flash corners.

Only challenge with Tail of the Dragon is everyone else thinks they are Kenny Roberts or Valentino Rossi.

Then there is the family on vacation in the Winnabego.

Hey from east TN! I hope to be a uly owner soon. If you are coming this way, check out devils triangle. It is near oak ridge. I live in sevierville, about 30 minutes away from gburg. If you are going on the BRP towards asheville, I'd def check out route 80 up by little switzerland, its called the devils whip. Very nice technical couple of miles.
