I have an '08 Ulysses with a stock exhaust and K&N air filter. Would I gain anything by installing EBR racing ecm? Thanks!

Yes! Better fuel economy, better acceleration, better behavior across the board. The stock fueling on the 08+ bikes is weak to meet EPA specs, but the Race ECM makes the bike run as intended.

Thanks! Is buying a cable and ecmspy software an alternative, or ebr race ecm is the ultimate solution?

You can buy a cable and use free software like TunerPro to tweak it yourself, but the EBR solution is fantastic, and is plug and play ready to go. There are a bunch of threads on here about tuning your bike and altering settings and datalogging if you really want to play around with it, but the Race ECM is a zero effort "heat and serve" solution.

Just ordered one from EBR, hopefully it's as good as they say : )
Good thing is it works for both '08 and '09, so it will fit both my X and my wife's XT.

Got my EBR ECM yesterday. Is there any advice on installation? Just plug and play? Perhaps a Throttle Sensor Reset to begin with?

Thanks

WOW!
I'm absolutely thrilled at the difference. It's like a different bike!

Now it takes off like it should, idles like it should, and runs like a turpentined cat.

Thanks to everyone who suggested this $300 "cure all". IT REALLY WORKS

What is the difference in the EBR ECM and the standard ECM? Is the EBR version just a standard ECM re-mapped?

I feel my XT isn't as quick as it should be.

They are both computers and both control multiple bike functions, the similarities end there. Race ECM has different programming for nearly everything including fuel mapping, ignition, idle control, fan*, and a bunch of other things. It fixes all the little things that make your bike not feel right.

You could make a stock ECM the equivalent to a Race ECM by pouring enough hours into it with a ECM tweaking program, but the Race ECM is a plug and play solution.

*Fan operation is the same as the 2010 comfort kit programming where it runs the fan constantly at 15+mph and rarely below that, including almost never after key off.

Just installed the race ECM myself, and the instruction called for a TPS reset on the 08-10 models. Did that. I'm running stock exhaust. Let it idle the prescribed time, thing is I thought fan programming was going to match the comfort kit install I did two years ago. Fan came on after shutting it down, like it was stock. Only for a moment, but it never did that with the comfort kit reflash. Otherwise, a totally different idle sound, and throttle is very sensitive (no time for ride, though.

Am I missing something here? I was hoping (and reading) that the race ECM had the most up-to-date fan logic. Perhaps a few rides will even it out? Thoughts? Thanks.

Yes your race ECM has the newer fan logic.

Congrats on finding the almost never. : )

I have an '08 model - do I really have to do TPS reset when installing the race ecm? If yes how do I do that - I hope I don't have to take it to the dealer for that. Thanks!

A TPS reset is required when replacing the ECM, regardless of year. The throttle position sensor works a little differently on each bike, so the ECM needs calibration accordingly. Here is the procedure:

Need a ECM for my 06. Is the original ECM the way to go?

Yan, yes you have to reset tps, but the good news since you have an 08 like mine it's eazee-peazee. Hint, check your owners manual, it's DIYS.

Thanks Froggy and Ulyranger. I am not quite clear as to why TPS reset is even required to be done on ecm replacement - isn't it done automatically on 08+ Ulysses, with an old or new ecm?

By the way, is the procedure outlined in Owners or Service Manual?

Thanks!

Yes it is done automatically, but you need to force it after swapping the ECM, otherwise the ECM will use whatever incorrect TPS setting it has till it automatically recalibrate.

It is in the service manual, but it almost verbatim with the instructions I linked to.

Thanks Froggy! So worst comes to worst it will autocorrect the TPS settings later on anyways, right?

Yes. I did an experiment with my 1125R, I didn't do a TPS reset after installing a brand new EBR ECM, it ran fine, the next day I did a TPS reset, it ran noticeably better.

I don't know the parameters to trigger the automatic recalibration, but given how stupidly easy it is to do the TPS reset there is no reason not to.

My 09 runs fine with the stock ECM. I'm on my second one because the plug connection broke on the original, like so many others. I have re-located it. Still, if my bike could run so much better I'ld be willing to buy an EBR ECM. Do I buy that from the Harley shop I bought my bike from or from somewhere else?

How difficult is it to reprogram the standard ECM to race ECM spec? Is it possible to upload different maps to the standard ECM as you would do on a Power commander??

I know the race ECM is $300, but that cant be reprogrammed without spending another $750.

I have a Remus exhaust on my XT and I'm planning on putting a set of equal length 1 7/8" custom made headers in the future, it seems there are no options for the Remus on the EBR ECM.

Is it possible to reprogram the OEM ECM to EBR logic?
