Saw a 2005 Triumph Sprint that caught my eye. Did a quick google search on it, and other than some luggage recall issues, does not seem like there were any major issues with that model year.

Anyone have any positive/negative experiences with the Sprint? Are they as big of pigs on petrol as our thruxton was (35 mpg avg)? A coach I worked previously with had an earlier model with the 955 motor in it, and put nearly 100K miles on it. He loved it.

Feedback appreciate, thanks in advance. B.

Looks like a "shoot out" is needed on this one?

there was a thread on the quick board re: sprints.

Daytona BMW/Tri/Duc had Sprints on sale.

I like them and that sweet triple motor.

Thanks Jake.

I saw the thread after the fact.

I am smitten with the bike. It had me at hello.

If this deal works out, this will not be a good outcome for the beemer. The times they are a changing.

FLtwistygirl - Not exactly sure when the folks at Hinkley changed from 955 to 1050 in Sprints (not til 2007 in tiggers) However, either is a fine motor. But... there IS a 20+ HP diff. Those 1050's run like 'scalded kitty's' - be careful out there. Chow' j

The Sprint is a sweet bike.
I was going to buy one in 05 but bought a firebolt instead. The only complaint I hear much about is engine heat but since you ride Buells you may not even notice the heat.

I had a 97 Sprint, you think BMW parts are expensive? $80 for a valve cover gasket. Great bikes though. I really liked mine.

True. And I pretty much wear my riding pants year round so if it were hot, I wouldn't feel it much.

I am on my 4th Triumph now and love them. Had a 955 Daytona,a 1999 Sprint ST--put 50K on it, a 2002 Sprint ST, and my current 2008 1050 Tiger. Seriously fun bikes, great sound from the triple! Only breakage was a gas gauge sender.

I took one on a test ride today- it was a 2007 Sprint ST.Bike is really nice- way more power then I can use on the street and keep my license.. it handles great , sounds great but- here come the negatives which are a deal breaker for me: at 6' and not so young knees it is just too tight for me, the seat slopes forward and puts too much pressure on my "family Jewels", and the seat is WAY hotter then my 06 Uly- and today is a 70 degree day, cloudy, and I wore my Aerostitch AD-1 pants over my jeans. The exhaust is under the seat and there is a thermal isolation layer but to me it is nowhere near enough. It is a shame as I really liked a lot of things about the bike and the price is very atractive..but to me those are deal-breakers. I think you should ride it before you buy, see if it fits you better then it did for me.

Ishai-

I rode it and really liked it. The heat did not seem too bad but I was wearing my riding pants and wearing those, I flit around in Orlando traffic in July on my Uly with no heat issues on my legs. I rode the sprint for about 15 minutes.

However, it was not the right bike at the right price at the right time. It needed new tires, & would have needed to be set up with hard bags. I had two 3-wheeled classes recently and hubby was reminding me how we really should look at hacking the beemer instead of spending money on making the wrong bike right. I agreed.

If we look at another 2 wheeled option soon, we really need to check out a tiger again. The sprint is awesome, and the one we considered had risers, but I think the tiger is inherently a better fit.

It may be silly, but I also really dig the old school tiger striped paint on the 955's.

To me the heat problem was at the seat, not the legs, and yes, a Tiger might be a better choice. But then again a three wheeled Beemer sounds like fun too... good luck with whatever you choose.
