So I have a 2006 XB12X. My ECM cracked from the contact with the seat. I can see the cracks and when you push down on the connectors with slight pressure I can make the gages sweep. I have since clearance the seat. I have stock exhaust and a 07 airbox with a K&N.

I ordered a stock ECM from Harley and received it. I keep reading about people re-flashing their ECM. The parts guy uttered something about programming it to my bike. But he was not clear, service guy told him something but by the time he walked from the service department to the counter he forgot what was said. I have ECM spy and the cable.

Question: Do I have to do anything to this ECM besides resetting the TPS?

This thing did come with the stock programming from the factory right?

I have not really gotten a straight answer from anyone that I have asked so far.

Thanks in advance.

You should do a cold tps reset with ECMSPY and then ride it a while until it's hot and do another tps reset. Should be good to go by then!

It may have changed, last I heard the DDFI2 ECMs shipped preprogrammed, you just have to drop it in, TPS reset, and enjoy. The DDFI3 ECMs all shipped blank and need to be programmed by the dealer tech tool. It is very possible they started doing that with the DDFI2 ECMs too.

That is what I am hoping for. Thanks for the info.

Having recently had my '07's OEM ECM replaced under warranty, I was told that my ECM was shipped blank and had to be programmed by the tech.

Having had no contact with the tech or access to the process, I can't confirm how the new one came but am just going off of what a very unreliable service writer told me. He did get confused for a minute and remarked that the ECM he had in stock was for an XB but not for a Ulysses and that he had to wait until he had one for the Ulysses in hand. A tech corrected him and they moved their conversation to a place where I couldn't hear them. When he returned, he miraculously had an ECM for the Uly.

Jake that is the same type of response that I was getting between parts guy and service guy.

It would make sense from an inventory / stocking part perspective to keep the ECMs blank, and flash them on install to the motorcycle.

It also makes MORE sense to order a preprogrammed race ECM from EBR, even on a bike with stock hardware. I run their computer on my '06 with no changes other than a K&N and an open inner airbox, and it ROCKS.

And no, they won't flash an ECM unless it has "FOR RACE USE ONLY" stamped on it.

I wanted to order an ECM from EBR (and still may...one day) but with the state that my original one was in had rendered the bike useless. One day I stopped in to inquire about a warranty replacement and once the ball got rolling, I sorta went along for the ride.

IIRC, someone here reported that the EBR ECM for my bike was essentially unremarkable in its difference from the OEM one and once I found that out, I sorta backed off of the penny fund for a new EBR ECM. Of course, this is what I recall and may not in fact be correct...I have brain damage as evidenced by things like marriage, raising teenagers, living in Florida.
