Hello,

Recently i got a Erik Buell Racing ECM, i see that the fan works more then before, i was wondering if with the ecm spy there is a way to make the fan work more, as i'm going to remove the Erik Buell Racing ECM and go back to the previous one.

Thanks.

I dont think you can. I would try and make the oil cooler work better if you can on your bike. Remember it is the second stage of cooling on this bike and a very good thing to get right in a hot place like yours.

If you are going back to your 2006 ECM, it can be done theoretically, but it is not straight forward. I don't know anyone who has ever done it.

There will probably be several fields that relate to the fan settings. One will be the temp it kicks on at and will be represented by a hex. You'll have to change that figure and burn the new eeprom.

It is very easy to change on the stock ECM, you just have to lower the fan on temperatures in ECMspy.

Check out the ECMspy website. They have the eeprom directories posted there. Fan details present and accounted for. It is a haxadecimal figure (50 degrees C for my ECM).

If Froggy is referring to an edit field for the "fan temp" in the GUI like they have for AFV, I can't remember seeing it. That would make it really simple though.

Thanks for the replies, actually i'm going back to a 04/05 ecm that was converted to race, with maps i bought from Al (American Sport Bike) specific for the D&D truly, from my point of view, and compared to the Erik Buell Racing ECM, I feel it's better programed, but that is just my opinion, don't mean to say Erik Buell Racing ECM is not good, just i felt the older one slightly better.

Best person to provide info on this would probably be Xopti. I've read many post from him concerning tuning and ECMspy, and he seems to be a genius with respect to this stuff. May want to post your question on the XB board. Seems anything with "ecmspy" in the subject will usually attract his attention, and he always seems quite helpful to others posing questions.

What are you going to do with the Erik Buell Racing one? I might be interested in buying it from you so long as I can still use ECMspy to adjust maps and reset the TPS and such.

You can't use ECMspy to adjust things on the Erik Buell Racing Race ECM, it can cause data corruption.

By my little knowledge i think 04 and 05 ecm's are easier to work around, at least when i changed exhaust and my friend converted to a race i used and earlier ecm not the Uly 06 one.

Pontlee77. I had a 06 Uly and once the grounds were fixed it run great with my Remus can and Powerizer. No fueling problems at all. No dead spots and it would idle right as well. I have ECM-SPY but never found a need to change any part of the map. I used it for TPS resets and checking the system.

I have the twin o2 sensor 2010 Uly now and it runs very much like my 06 bike. A little stronger in the mid range, less vibs and the active can work better now.

My 2010 bike does not run anything like as hot as the 06 bike. The 2010 bikes oil matrix is bigger and works. Unlike with the 06 bike on which it never seemed to get hot at all. Ok so the 2010 engine is black and it has some other mods but both the engines are close enough to not have such problems.

I would say if you want to cool a 06 bike better sort out the oil cooling first. The bike has plenty of torque but if you want more power as well you need a faster reving engine as with the R and CR. Thats what you can get from a modern V-Twin which is why they are so great. You will not get it from the "old iron" engine on a XB. Mind you its not all that sad and does have a charm of its own.

Its easy to control engine temp with water but doing so with the XB always looked like a problem. The later Buell ECMs are a lot more powerful with greater control. Do not be fooled by thinking that fueling problems are just a Buell thing though because many other bike makers still do as well.

Don't get me wrong i love my 06 Uly, just i notice that the EBR ECM makes the fan work more, so i'd like the old ECM to do the same, nothing else, as per power or torque a friend has a X1 with 1250cc and believe me it's a rocket, there are some other mods to get a bit more out of the engine, but i don't need them.

Thanks.

"a friend has a X1 with 1250cc and believe me it's a rocket". It must be an over bored engine then. You can do this and many other things but how reliable it will be is another matter. Buells have a bad enough rep for this and much of it seems to come from the early bikes. Any real good stuff, as with most engines cost a lot. The Thunderstorm engine is close to the peak for this design and I think they did well to get it that far.

What are you trying to do with your bike? Cool it more or make the fan run quite/less.

let me explain my friend X1 has 1250cc in that he has had the heads ported, used jims gaskets that are tighter, a jaggs oil cooler, a catch can also he got a 3 inch head from D&D plus a D&D muffler he modified, and a few other things, he has quite a bit of knowledge, managed to do some dyno tests in Cheste (The place the hold the last moto GP race of the year), he offered me to try it, but sound and how on 3rd gear the bike lifted front wheel with out effort, was far beyond what i want to handle.
Now part 2, my EBR ECM has a bit of a little jump feeling on the range of 2k-3k revs, with my old ecm this was due to the O2 turning it of it cured it , so i need to test on the EBR the same, when the weather gives me the chance. if it's solved this way, fine if not i'll go back to the old ECM
and see how to make it work more (cooler the bike).
