09 XT 15,000 miles.

So, leaving work for home. Start bike and head off, immediately bike misses, keep going and continues to miss very randomly. I could go 10-15 miles with no issues and then a hiccup once or twice then disappears again. Drove it to work and back and is getting worse. Had to stay on the gas to keep it from stalling at stops, then would act like I hit the kill switch, then a backfire...nothing...backfire...starts going again.
I got home and checked the ECM for any cracks but nothing. Checked all ground connections, all good. Spark plugs and wires both changed fresh this year.

Coil?

Anyone go through similar situation?

It has been raining here quite a bit, but bike has always been great the rain.

Thanks

The things I would check (in this order):
- grounds: all ground points clean, wires not stressed. Clean up the frame to subframe grounds too
- relays: they are cheap, get a few and swap em out. I had a bad one that would shut my bike down while on the freeway doing 70!
- plugs and wires: 15,000 miles, might as well do it as maintanence.
- ecm block/relocation: even tho you may not have a cracked ecm yet, your seat may be making contact and causing the problem.....which will eventually make it crack. Might as well address it now and eliminate it as the source.

Plugs can foul on any given day, new or not. I would pull them, check them out. If wet fouled toss them.

So I just wanted to follow up and say thanks.

Checked and cleaned all ground connections and found the ground behind the fly screen was a bit loose.

Rode the bike the other day and it ran great, but I really wanted to ride it in rain to be sure I got the problem fixed.
Well, today it pissed rain pretty good all damn day and I love my bike!

Thanks for the help!!!

Mine did the exact same thing. Same, same, thing.

It did this for about 3 months, then my channel key broke and slaughtered my engine. HD is not gutting and replacing my engine for free : )

Not sure why, seeing as my 2008 is out of warrenty.

First thing I would do with this type of situation is put a multimeter on your ground. Check the resistance from the Negative terminal on the battery to any ground on the wiring harness. I had similar issues for a long time until they got bad enough for me to dig further. I was convinced it was the ECM, even had the tell tale crack. But when checked with a meter the resistance was less than optimal. Removed battery and tray. Cleaned thread locker off torx bolt and ground frame coating off contact point. Resistance went to 0, all electrical cut outs magically disappeared........with the original, cracked ECM. Go figure. Bike even runs better, smoother.
