Your bike is an 07, you best bet is to get another 07. When you start picking different years, you start needing to change components. Any 04-07 XB12 motor will drop in with minimal fuss. |

Probably the best bet is to catch it early, and just rebuild your motor with the 08 crank. That will probably solve the problem. |

""Probably the best bet is to catch it early, and just rebuild your motor with the 08 crank. That will probably solve the problem."" That might not be possible. It could be more of an on/off thing - happening all at once. Maybe Hughlysses and some of the others can chime in with regard to when they first noticed their engine going south. .. |

We used engines built by Hoban Bros with a 08 cranks in them. They can do it so the engine components stay the same. I have done the conversion to the 08/09 motors and have a good list on what you would need if you get a newer motor. |

I would love to see a list of parts needed for a newer motor swap. It would be like my list to Santa Claus. |

Only indicator I had for crank failure was a clacking noise under acceleration. Otherwise, bike ran fine and still pulled hard. No metal was found in the oil. The four options I considered were; 1) Swap for another 06/07 motor (but may end up with another bad crank), 2) Rebuild using old crank with new bearings (cost was only slightly nower than a new one), 3) Rebuild with new crank. 4) Part out on ebay. I found the most economical to be rebuilding with a new crank. The easist and quickest would be a straight motor swap (04-07), but may not be the best way. "I found the most economical to be rebuilding with a new crank." Is that rebuilding w/ an 08+ crank, and what were your cost numbers, if I may ask? Thanks . |

thanks for all the input, putting a new crank in is probably above my abilities, am thinking of finding a motor and storing it until i need it. the question is what year, are the only crank issues with 07. i would like a direct swap if possible. thanks again for the input trying to make a informed decision . |
