Hey everyone, As you all know I just picked up my 2010 Uly and I dont like the seat as much as my 06 Low Gel seat. The problem is my gel seat is Orange, and my new bike is black. I am willing to trade either one of my seats for a black 06 Low Gel seat, otherwise I will just buy it outright if you dont want to trade. The Orange seat has a couple scuffs (been used for about 18,000 miles. No tears, always stored in the garage, so its not faded. If I dont get any takers, I might try vinyl dye, anyone have any experience with that?

Yes it has been done. The leather takes die pretty well the threads will need blacked out with a marker or something other. Personally I would use NAPA's Marhide product. It is a leather vinyl dye made for automotive type stuff. A good product from my experience. A new seat of that style was around $110, for what ever reason the stock seat was nearly double the price. |

Thanks Vern I just might go that route. I thought I would try the trading thing just in case someone really wanted the orange one. Do you know if/how often it needs to be re-dyed? |

With Marhide it will only need to be done once. I comes in a spray can so you won't even have to tear it apart, some careful masking will do. It applies like spray paint with it's color soaking or sponging into the leather or vinyl. I recall demonstrations at paint shows where it was sprayed on a leather and a vinyl piece of seat material. They cut the material so that you could see that it had not only covered the surface, but soaked half way through it. I would think it would take a long time to wear half way through that seat cover. |

I have an all black seat. How do I know if its a low or if it's a gel seat? I was told when I bought the Uly that the black seat was a low seat and the orange and black that came with it was a standard. The part numbers on the bottom are the same though as well as the measurement from seat top to floor. If your interested, let me know. A lower seat would be great for my short legs! |

Chris If you come to a crossroads and want to sell your low gel orange seat, I would LOVE to have it!!! I have a standard orange seat, so I am sure you dont want that, but I would be willing to buy yours outright if the right deal comes along for you!! Bruce |

Bruce I will keep you in mind. It looks like I am picking up a black low seat from a fellow board member here so I will let you know how that goes. |
