Hi folks, a couple of months ago I high-sided my beloved 06 uly. I am now just recovering and finally physically able to work on the bike. Thanks to the frame sliders it came out much better than I, virtually unscratched with the exception being the Instrument Cluster and it's two support brackets. Now my question, does a shattered instrument panel completely neuter all electronics? The bike's electrical system is completely dead. I am concerned there maybe some other damage besides the instrument cluster. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. FYI, I have been riding street bikes for 38 years, probably accumulated over 500k miles, this is my first wreck and it sucks. Hopefully I’ll be back on my uly next year. Thanks! Neal |

The gauge cluster does nothing other than receive input from ECM and various other sources. That means you can operate the bike 100% the same with or without the cluster as it controls nothing and does nothing other than displaying info. Given your wreck destroyed the fairing brackets, I'd start with checking your key switch. Also make sure you have a fully charged battery. |

Thanks froggy, that's what I was afraid of. Battery checks perfect ignition switch and lock mechanism untouched. Any other suggestions? |

All the ground wires probably broke or tore off from the steering head located behind the headlight. |

Unfortunately being an electrical issue there is a long list of places something can go wrong, but be sure to check all the wiring up in the front for damage, check your fuses, and try swapping the relays around. When you turn the key on, do you get any click noise from the relays under the seat, or whine from the fuel pump? (kill switch on) |

Check all of your fuses. Sometimes you need to wiggle them as well as the relays. I would take the ignition switch out to where you can make sure the wiring is plugged in properly. Unwrap and check all of the wires in the steering neck. There is a red wire triple splice that can break under normal circumstances. Check your Bank Angle Sensor. Can you kill one by flipping the bike? Mostly just follow and check all of your wires, ground connections, plugs, switches, and battery terminals. |

THANK YOU ALL! Etunnuly & Froggy win the contest, not sure why, but when I disconnected and reconnected the ignition switch she cranked to life. Awesome to hear that special ops exhaust purring again. This bike is amazing she is simply the best machine I ever owned. |
