The '06 air box is more restrictive then later years, so I've wanted to see how an opened air box will perform. Last night I took the roto-tool to it and opened up both sides of the air box and the front. Then took a soldering iron to clean up the edges. I got a complete surprise this morning the first time I cranked open the throttle. I now can hear the engine much better through the air box - especially when I'm cranking on it. A very, very pleasing sound!! And being that the noise is directed at my head, I get a front row seat to this new rumble (more like a WOT). I found myself goosing it at any opportunity on the way into work just to hear it. I'm not sure if there will be any performance improvement. I was very happy with the bike already. But I'm even more happy with this surprise. |

Uh oh! If you want lively from your '06 run the crap out of it. The faster and harder you run it the more it "learns" to run that way. Then the next time out for an easy run it will surprise you at wanting to fly! |

I delayed making this mod because I thought I had to re-program my ECM. But after asking around and finding a couple people that had either drilled out their airbox or gone airbox free without any ECM re-work, I decided to take the plunge. I'm surprised how it relearned without any help. Why did I wait so long? |

Just wait until we install the 9 gearing, then you'll really have fun! |
