I installed a new battery today and noticed that with all/everything turned off that my neg. terminal was arcing slightly. I measured it with my multi-meter at 1.6/1.7 milliamps (1,000ths of an amp). So if I am correct, that is 1.7/1,000ths of an amp. My question is this, is this considered a normal parasitic loss (draw)? I would think with everything turned off that there would be ZERO draw on the batt. Thanks for the help. ... |

Clock, can't recall what other systems keep powered. The ECM (I THINK) has a slight draw. |

""Clock, can't recall what other systems keep powered. The ECM (I THINK) has a slight draw."" Okay, that makes sense...thank you. I can't imagine that 1.7 milliamps is all that much. . |

The gauge cluster and ECM are never entirely off. How else does the fan magically know when to stop when you shut the bike off? The 1125's even take a step further and will keep the fuel pump primed for 10 minutes to prevent vapor lock if you take a pit stop, and the cluster/ECM do have an active security lockout system that can be engaged making the bike immobile even if you have the key. The draw is minimal, and shouldn't run your battery down unless you are parked for months, but at that point you should be either tendering or disconnecting the battery anyway, regardless of its a car, bike, boat, etc. |

Early Victory's would suck a battery dry in a week. |

There was a glitch in the programming of early 1125R's that if you turned the bike off with the key first instead of the kill switch, it would vampire your battery like you left the lights on. An ECM reflash took care of that one. |

The clock keeps time unless you disconnect the battery, so that is another electron chigger. |

Also, if you have a gps unit wired to the battery it will keep itself charged at the expense of your battery. |

Johnboy, You are correct. A mA is 1/1000 of an Amp. I just measure 1.5mA current draw on my '07 with the key in the off position. The current does spike up when the battery is first connected and the ECM (I guess) goes thru some self diagnostics. |

So if you disconnect the battery for winter storage, do you need to do a TPS reset when you put it back in? |

No, TPS does not need to be reset. |
