just got back from my first long haul on my 09 Uly. She performed FLAWLESSLY. Did about 1000ks and boy was I impressed. She handled like a dream and in the rain she was perfect. Although my ass was in extreme pain from my first long ride it was worth it. The ride home was easier than the way up on the body. I was pretty bummed that I didnt see any other uly owners at the rally. My buds said they saw two but I couldnt find you guys. I was also disappointed at the vendor section for having no Buell stuff but that's what you get for owning a classic!!!! While there we witnessed a extreme bike accident which took the wind out of our sails for the day. First on scene for first aid. It was a quad bike-the one that keeps the original bike and has two "training wheels" T boned the guard rail after a speed wobble. Pretty gruesome PLEASE RIDE SAFE On the topic of rain gear We had a full day of hard rain and 4 guys wearing different gear 1-normal riding gear with rain inserts= 1hour dry 2-helly hanson-2 hours dry 3- fenwick- full day dry 4- frogg toggs- full day dry for the money I will be buying TOGGS |

I gave up on the Americade, it seems like it is only good for getting aggravated at all the traffic and idiots who can't seem to ride down the main drag correctly. Glad you had a good time though. |

My group opted to return early on Friday as the storm on Thursday took down several trees very near our rented cabin. A power pole and transformer also bit the dust. The utility guys worked late into the night on Thursday but being a rental we were not sure when there would be power again until Monday. Friday was a dry day to depart. I saw a few Buells but not many. I don't think I saw any other Ulys. There are usually a few spotted but my visit was shortened. A few interesting products: An electronic face shield that would tint instantly or even automatically. Search on e-tint. A replacement front end for a large style bike (ie HD) with two wheels ala the piagio (not sure of spelling). The front wheels were capable of tilting allowing the bike to handle similar to a true motorcycle while offering the stability of a trike. Of interest was the use of the buell braking system on the two replacement front wheels. They were buell parts (calipers -rotors) with some claimed improvements to the rotors or mounting. This looks like a serious problem for CanAm IMO since you can keep your present bike and convert it rather than have to buy new. He is looking for dealers to carry his kit and be trained on the conversion. This year they did not use Roaring Brook and that was an improvement IMO. |

I came back on Sunday from Americade, this was my second year and again the rain falls. I was on the lookout for other Ulys but saw only mine. I stay away from the main drag. Learned hard the first day in town about the traffic. ADK's have some of the best bike roads in the north. We spend most of the time cruising the roads around the park. I come from Mass and travel some great roads to get to lake george. We mainly stay north of LG. Closer to the good roads. Jetranger, look me up for next year. Maybe we can get to Ulys together there. But the universe might implode?? lol |
