I got my 06 Uly last summer as my first bike. Being I went from a little 250cc dirt bike at the MSF course to the Uly with nothing in between it did not take me long to do something stupid. Despite a hospital stay, home nursing, a wound vac and more shit than you could imagine from friends and family I still managed to heal a lot quicker than my bike did. It took over 9 months to get a primary cover in for it. I have seen a lot of other posts on here with similar stories. In any case I am up and running now but I feel I should be keeping an eye out for parts now and start to stock pile some since its only bound to get worse.

My question is what parts should I be looking out for? What are common components that go that may be hard to replace in the future?

Whew...nothing like trial by fire, eh?

Glad to hear you're back upright and looking for parts instead of a "For Sale" sign.

There are a dozen different parts and pieces (and theories on what to buy), but discussions here have listed, at a minimum:

factory service manual
belt
bearings for both wheels (not in short supply, per se, as they can be cross referenced with other bikes/ATVs but nice to have and travel with)
clutch cable
throttle cable
fuel filter and pickup screen for fuel pump (if you're going to check your fuel pump for wear on the pump wiring)

I added intake seals and rocker box gaskets to my personal list but tha's just me.

You could probably add things like frame pucks if you know you're going to let it nap on the ground, off of the kickstand often or at speed. Same goes for things like clutch/brake levers.

There are several owners still waiting for specific things but the majority of us are still riding without having to curse H-D or parts availability.

There's a starting point list for ya.

That's a pretty good list above. I'd also throw in a spare cooling fan. For long-term parts, a voltage regulator and stator and front and rear isolators might be good to have.

The deal is I suspect all the parts Jake listed above will be available from SOMEBODY even after Harley stops supporting these bikes. Things like the fan, ECM, plastics, primary covers, etc. may be harder to find.

I would stock the spacer for the rear wheel before the bearings. Didn't I hear the frame pucks were already on the endangered species list?

How could I forget the fan?!? It was only my very first repair job on the Uly and made the CEL come on before I even got home.

What you should stock, in my opinion, is pretty much any parts you could ever potentially use. That's what I do. Every time I see a good deal on a part, I buy it. It's not so much for me (although should the need arise, I would have it) but for sale or trade. If more of us did this and kept in contact like on this site we could all go on to obsoleteville much better prepared. We could theoretically amass a nice inventory.

So.....where do you find the "good deal on a part"?

Because I should probably stock a fan in my parts department(even though I just replaced it)

I went ahead and bought one from American Sportbike (I think) when mine started acting up. It seems to have healed itself since. Because of this I have a spare.
