Normally I do not ride my Uly in the dark, because of all the nocturnal critters here, but was forced to the last three nights. The light output on the stock headlights is just abominable. Two candles in there would do the same job. What have you done to solve this Problem?? Have more night rides coming up and I want to light up the road. |

I installed the DDM Tuning HID kit after reading ALL the great advice here. Huge difference at night...you will not spend better money on your Uly. http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-35W-55W-Dual -Motorcycle-HID-Kit |

Hunn, I traded an 06 for a 2010 model and I am shocked every time that I ride in the dark. The lights on my 2010 model are excellent and on my 06 I was afraid of the dark. I live in deer country. Buell fixed something on the lights in the time between 06 and 10 and I am not sure what is different but I think it might be the reflectors. If you have a friend at a Buell shop they might be able to go through Part numbers year by year until you find something different in numbers for the reflector or the bulbs. If it is the reflector assy it might not be a big deal to swap them? |

On my '06, I aimed them up a little bit and it made a world of difference. Not as good as the '08-up reflector setup...but much cheaper! (and the headlight unit is one piece, gotta buy the whole thing). |

Here they are on ebay... http://tinyurl.com/37fwday They are mounted to a flat aluminum bar. Under the plastic front fender, using the same holes as the fender. |

I did the trick where both lights stay on when you turn on the high beams. Cost nothing, is easy to do, and makes a world of difference. |

I have an HID low beam and some round driving lights from Wal Mart, plus both lights work on high beam. Between the HID and the driving lights I can hardly tell when I turn the high beam on and off.

I went with the simple switchover to both lights on with high beam and that wasn't enough. Switched to the HID light that American Sportbike sells and put that in the low beam side (right). I also replaced the bulb in the high beam with one from American Sport Bike also. Got some good help from Al in making it all work too. I'm very happy with the lighting now. I can see better and people see me better with the HID in the low beam side. |

I ran one 35W 3500K "super yellow" low beam HID and one 35W 8500K high beam HID. Added incredible definition and when things got foggy, I could turn on the low beam yellow and cut through it like a knife. Also improved daytime visibility.

Also, I put the ballasts in the airbox to free up space in the front fairing. |

The "easy" setup is the 35w ddm kit in the low beam housing and power lead. Just buy it and hook it up. Seems to be working fine. If you switch to "high beam" the normal filament bulb is there like always, and the HID drops out. Flash to pass leaves both lamps on (which is the only way I will use the high beam anymore, unless the HID dies at night in the middle of nowhere). Not perfect, but a REALLY easy install and I am very happy with the results. I don't think I had to cut a single wire... |

Dennis : Thats looks like a great setup. Where did you get the lights? Are they both high/low beam or one high and the other low? How well do they work? |

The DDM kit is fan-freakin'-tastic. Lights up the night like crazy, and was seriously cheap and easy to install. |

Hunn, Those are Sol-Tek Fuegos (by Baja Designs) I believe and they come in different wattages and unlike conventional headlamps, have different beam patterns that create the low beam/high beam pairing effect. They can be purchased and used as aux lamps on the bike or, in this instance, used to replace the headlamps. I think (I hope I'm correct) that Treadmarks did a light conversion on a Uly using these lamps and his writeup(s) are plentiful in the archive. Dennis C, if I'm overlooking a conversion that you did in the archives, mea culpa. I looked at the Sol-Teks closely and fell in love with their high quality of construction. Hell, just the way they felt in your hands inspired an indestructible sense of coolness. They are spendy. I got a great deal on a pair of PIAA 510s and went that route instead. But I still dream about those Fuegos... (Message edited by 7873jake on October 12, 2010) |

I don't remember where I got them. They were more expensive than the DDM and not any better. You can buy the DDM kits in different colors. If you go with the 3000K they will be yellow. Were I running an XB, I'd run a 3000K low beam and 6000K high beam. |

Dual headlight mod, then dual HID 5600K on Low, and 4500K on High. Ride with both on all the time! Powered through relay. Ray Charles could see me coming. |
