after spending much of last month trying to solve my "bucking" problem (seat pan impinging upon ecm)something "isn't right." my bike takes three or four cycles to start up. first cranking usually does nothing, second one will usually "sneeze" out of the airbox, third will usually turn over, and finally, with a bit of throttle, the fourth will fire-up, but not without a cloud of smoke coming out of the exhaust. i had been thinking it was just the plugs, but after putting in some NGK iridiums yesterday, it's still doing it. does this sound like timing, mapping, TPS/AFV, or something else? thanks in advance sean |

To me it sounds like either tps or intake leak. Warm the engine to normal, (20 minute ride), then do a tps reset. Bring tps up to 5.1. If it idles fine here you might be done. If it is idling high and you have to turn it down to say 3.1 to get it to idle right then you have an intake leak. Either way I would check for an intake leak. If the tps is ok and warm operation is ok then check your intake when it's cold as it could seal up when warm which would only cause you the starting problem and nothing else. |
