I bought my 08 Uly Xb1200xt used and it didn't have the hard cases or mounts when I got it. I want to put cases back on it as soon as finances allow. If I first find a set of the factory side and top case mounts will they work with any of the Hepco Becker cases? Also, do you know if I could make them work with other cases, i.e. Givi, Shad, Pelican, etc...? Trying to figure out my options. I also found the mounts from Happy Trails that seem to work for most any cases, but I don't like the fact that you have to remove the grab bars from the back of the seat for the top case mount. Just looking at my options. Thanks, Eric |

Go for the Outdoorsman setup, the cases lock to the frames at the rear like the other HB's, gives you more options for HB cases. The Buell Journey cases lock at the front which limits your options for alternative cases other than the POC Journeys. Just my $.02. |

The Outdoorsman racks will accept all H&B bags... the stock Junior case rack will not accept all without some mods.... I don't have experience with the otheres... the Outdoorsman is what I went with so i could have more options... such as 40L Outdoorsman cases.... much better ...much... do some searching on here.... this is a common question, which I spent hours researching before i pulled the trigger... cheers-pete |

I agree with the above, assuming you can still get the Outdoorsman racks. I have the Journey cases, which have worked fine, but I would rather have had the racks for the Outdoorsman cases so that I could choose whatever cases I wanted. I believe Twisted Throttle sells Givi racks that fit the XT and would allow for Givi cases and possibly others. |

Hepco-Becker Gobi cases mount to the stock Uly rack with no modification. Pelican top loaders (1440) will work with the H-T pucks, but will require the removal of the hand rails & top case rack. The 1430's work, but they're pretty small. Most aluminum panniers will work with the H-T mounts, they only need to have lift off tops. |

I bought an '06 this summer that did not come with bags/brackets. I found the bags and topcase bracket used for a good price. I never did find a set of used side brackets, bought new. Pretty cheap actually, this is all you need (plus a trip to the hardware store): 90089-05Y right side, $83.00 90085-05Y left side, $83.00 90090-05y cross brace (left to right under taillight), $65.00 That's retail prices, find a good dealer and get 10-20% off of that. If I was in your shoes, I would buy those and the Palmer top rack (you can mount about anything to it): http://palmerproducts.auto.officelive.com/buellxb1 2x.aspx |

Thanks for the info, guys! Andy, do you know if those are the Outdoorsman or Journey racks? I really like the Palmer top rack setup. I see that they have two different versions, one that mounts to the bike with no pannier racks and one that mounts to the pannier rack also for support. I wonder if the pannier mount one would work with the Happy trails racks too? |

those parts numbers are for Journey bags. I would find it hard to believe that the Palmer pannier mount rear rack would work with other setups. I also am unsure of how much to trust the bike mount rear rack- you really need support to come from the side racks, either directly or indirectly. If the total system does not do this, then you will surely snap the tail section of the bike. |

The triple tail itself works for some of my gear. I have a 16" x 12" x 10" Ozark Trails cooler I use for a top box. Don't put a whole lot of weight in it. |

I think I have a complete set of mounts for the XT sides and top cases (Journey bags). If your interested I could probably sell them for a reasonable price. I have an Erik Buell Racing race ecm with my name on it! I see the Journey bags on Ebay a lot and sometimes on Craigslist never the Outdoorsman cases though. |

I have a set of seahorse cases on the stock racks. My mounts are homebuilt but I think happy trails makes a set you can buy. They're cheap and tough. The topcase rack on mine was made by the original owner and replaces the triple tail setup. I used a bicycle lock to lock the cases on.

What's the part number for the top case rack mount? Also could use the part number from you XT owners for the wire form from the front fender that holds the brake line. Thanks. |

I have the racks from Twisted Throttle, and have two Givi E360s on there right now. It's not quite as thin-profile as some of the other solutions guys on here have, but I can fit a *ton* of stuff in there. The Twisted Throttle racks are good quality, sturdy, etc., but it did take them a while to ship. I gather they had to get them made before shipping or something. |

This should be what is needed for topcase racks: M0261.1AU Bracket mounting top case, upper $142.20 92308-05Y Bracket mounting top case , lower $65.00 As a word of caution tho: do not run the top case rack without the side racks mounted, lest you wish to have a broken tail section! For this reason, you may have issues ordering the parts. |
