My lady and I just completed a trip from Calgary, Alberta to Queen Creek, Arizona on our new '09 XB12XT (2500 km or around 1550 miles) and had a blast (no pun intended!) What a beautiful trip with absolutely no problems other than a rear tire shredded just outside of Great Falls (who leaves 2" woodscrews lying around?) The bike ran like a train the whole way and was quite comfortable with 2 up for long periods. The only good thing I can think of regarding the closing of Buell is it got me to add another one to the "collection." (Message edited by shellyo on August 26, 2010) |

Looking on the bright side, when I'm done riding two wheels in about 20 years or so, the Uly will be worth a lot more than I paid for it in parts alone. |

Yeah, I'm always trying to sneak another one into the garage. She keeps catching me, though. |

How was the wind in Great Falls? I was just through there 3 weeks ago and did the middle of the lane lean into the wind ride all the way to Shelby |

Notice those windmills in Great Falls? Yep. How about the grasshoppers? My ATTGATT is still splooched with green shots. |

Yea, the wind blows in Central Montana and we have grasshoppers, but nothing like last year, why you hardly notice the little rascals this year. Somewhere I have a picture of my RK last Aug. with so many hoppers splattered all over it looked like it had some kind of weird rat bike paint job. |

Froggy and Ghostrider... you are correct. I keep seeing another '98 S1W in white (and looking completely original) that I an coveting big time. It would be a nice one to just keep in the garage and admire. Judotrip... we pulled into Great Falls on the evening of the 11th with storms on both sides of the hi-way that were closing up behind us. I was racing a massive black storm wall all the way in. By the way, the winds in Southern Alberta can be pretty severe so I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. If the winds ever stopped, I think I'd probably fall over. In the restaurant we ran into a couple of guys on their way back from Sturgis who were almost pounded flat by hail and heavy rain that same night so we were lucky. Eulysses and Smokey... hardly any hoppers out that day. They must be smarter than your average biker. Still can't believe how much fun we had on the way down. We left the bike in AZ and flew back, it was fun to look down and see what the terrain looks like from a distance. (Message edited by shellyo on August 26, 2010) |

MT is adventure everyday. If you don't like the weather at the moment just wait half an hour. It is a Big Sky. Grew up in Great Falls and can't stay away. Carried my prairie dog big medicine in a hard case across the back. Seat makes a nice rest.... Euly (Message edited by Eulysses on August 26, 2010) |
