I have a '08 X with 11 000 miles, serviced by the dealer, garaged at night, washed most weekends, no wheelies, no harsh acceleration etc. I have been watching all the conversations on the belt and bearings issues, and thought to myself ... better get a spare belt ... and check the bearings. I have noticed that the belt has been getting lose ... I can turn the idler wheel by hand. I use the bike every day to work and back (35 miles) and everything has been going well. This morning I started the bike, pushed it out of the garage, closed the door, and proceeded to leave ... only thing, no forward motion! Looked down ... broken belt lying on the ground! Oh well ... switch off ... put back into garage ... take wife's car! Luckily, after some delays, a new belt arrived yesterday! Guess I am working on bike tonight. |

Man, no kidding. If you have to break a belt, that's the place to do it. |

I broke three belts in my Buell lifetime, so far. (14 years) Twice on my S3, once on my S1. Each time was upshifting into second @ Full throttle. Twice in the same spot, one mile from home all downhill and coasted to my house. I don’t do clutchless upshifts @ full throttle anymore. |
