Now that I have the Uly I have been contemplating taking long rides. I have been looking at numerous options for side bags. I would like opinions/good experiences with top loading hard luggage and mounting hardware and where to purchase. Thanks |

If mine didn't come with luggage, I'd buy the happy tails setup powdercoated in hammer-tone black. Right now there is a special, free powder-coat and pre-mount. It's a good deal for great luggage. |

Just a small thing to consider with the Happy Trails bags...... I had them on my 08 Uly in the powder coated black, I loved the bags! The construction was flawless, the fit and latches and waterproof features were excellent, but........I called them my "easy bake ovens" because here in Texas, during the summer, they got hot that I think I could have baked cookies in them. If I were doing it again, I'd get the very same bags, and have them powder coated in the light silver color... The heat was the only issue, so depending on where you plan to ride.......... |

One word: Gobi Made by Hepco-Becker and fits right on the stock Journey mounting frame. Locks to the bike and the cases are lockable with the same key. A set of used ones just came up on advrider.com, which is where I got mine. They came off a KTM, but that doesn't matter as far as fit goes. I've also done Pelican 1430's (too small) and Pelican 1440's (too big). YMMV |

Posted the link to the Gobi's in the classifieds for anyone who may be interested. No financial gain for me - make your best deal. Double walled, so they're somewhat insulated from heat and cold. |

Happy trails are solid and well built, this is the 4th bike for these particular bags. These are plain - not powder coated, I am in Texas also - they don't seem to get hotter than anything else when it is 100+. Happy Trails racks are well built, although some people have had occasional problems with installation.

Double walled, so they're somewhat insulated from heat and cold. Even better than that. If you buy the spigot, you can put a couple of liters of water between the walls and always have water with you. Wayne |
